Open the access panels 3801, 3802, 3701, 9105 or 9205, 9107 or 9207, 9108 or 9208, 9109 or 9209, 9142, 9143, 9242, 9243, 9313, 9413, 9128 through 9141, 9228 through 9241, 3806 or 3807.

(3) S 864-003Use the trammel bar to set the B dimension at 41.57 |0.05 inches (Fig. 407).
(4) S 494-004Install rig pin E-5 in the aft control quadrant (Fig. 405).
(5) S 024-008Remove the elevator: (a) If the same elevator and tab will be reinstalled, do the following: 1) Make sure the elevator tab meets the freeplay check (AMM 27-09-91/601)

2) Measure and record the elevator tab position (ref 27-31-00/501, Adjustement -Elevator and Tab Control System), using the single point method.
3) If the elevator tab pushrods are aluminum, record the ambient temperature.
(b)
Disconnect the elevator control pushrod from the elevator.
1) Remove the bolts through the circular access opening in the tail cone adjacent to the bolt head.
(c)
Disconnect the tab pushrods and tab control mechanism: 1) Remove the aft mounting bolts of the tab pushrod (two locations).
2) Remove the two bolts that attach the crank to the elevator front spar.
(d)
At the stabilizer trailing edge ribs No. 1 thru 4, remove the elevator to stabilizer gap seals.
(e)
Remove the balance panels from the elevator: 1) Remove the six bolts that attach the aft part of each
balance panel hinge to the elevator nose.
2) Remove the balance panels from the elevator.
(f)
At the No. 3 and No. 4 elevator hinge, do these steps: 1) Remove the hole plugs as necessary. 2) Remove the hinge bearing bolt, the bearing plate bolts and
bushings, and the bearing plate. 3) Attach the elevator hoist adapter to the elevator front spar.
(g)
Attach the sling to the elevator hoist adapter and pull the line until it is tight.
(h)
At the No. 1, 2, 5, and 6 elevator hinges. 1) Remove the hinge bearing bolt. 2) AIRPLANES POST-SB 51-1011;
Disconnect the ground strap from the hinge fitting No. 6.
(i)
Remove the elevator from the airplane.
NOTE: The elevator with tab and balance panels weight is
____ approximately 180 pounds.
