 3) Release the first officer's right pedal.
 (p)  
Move the first officer's pedal adjustment to the full aft position.

 (q)  
Move the first officer's left pedal forward until it touches the stop and hold. Mark the right pedal aft position as position 3 at the pedal pivot point. 1) Measure the aft travel of the right pedal from position 1

 to position 3. 2) Make sure the aft travel is at a minimum of 6.89 inches. 3) Release the first officer's left pedal.

 (r)  
Move the first officer's right pedal forward until it touches the stop and hold. Mark the left pedal aft position as position 3 at the pedal pivot point. 1) Measure the aft travel of the left pedal from position 1 to


 position 3. 2) Make sure the aft travel is at a minimum of 6.89 inches. 3) Release the first officer's right pedal.

 (2)  
Do a test of the rudder hinge and the bearing play of the power control unit:

 (a)  
Set the rudder and rudder pedals in the neutral position (Fig. 505).

 (b)  
Make sure that the rudder trim indicator is at the zero unit.

 (c)  
Supply the rudder hydraulic power systems A and B
 (Ref 27-21-00/201).


 (d)  
Hold the rudder pedals in the neutral position, and make sure that they do not move during this test.

 (e)  
Attach the dial indicator at the lower end of the rudder trailing edge.


 CAUTION: USE A LOADING BLOCK AND DO NOT PUT MORE THAN 50 POUNDS ON
_______ THE RUDDER WHEN YOU MOVE THE RUDDER SURFACE BY AN EXTERNAL FORCE. MAKE SURE THE EXTERNAL FORCE IS APPROXIMATELY 46.9 INCHES FROM THE RUDDER HINGE LINE BETWEEN RUDDER STATIONS
 13.33 AND 31.65. YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE RUDDER.
 (f)  Use a loading block to move the rudder to the left side with a force of 12 |4 pounds and release slowly. 1) Make a record of the rudder position on the dial indicator.

 (g)  
Use a loading block to move the rudder to the right side with a force of 12 |4 pounds and release slowly. 1) Make a record of the rudder position on the dial indicator.

 (h)  
Make sure the difference between the left and right positions is not more than 0.04 inch. 1) If the difference is more than 0.04 inch, adjust the


 bearings plays of the rudder hinge or the power control unit.
 NOTE: You can have a rudder play of 0.06 inch with an
____ approximate 5-pound force (Ref 27-09-91/601).
 2)  Do a test of the rudder hinge and the bearing play of the power control unit.
 (i)  
Use a loading block to move the rudder to the left side with a force of 12 |4 pounds and release slowly. 1) Make a record of the rudder position on the dial indicator.

 (j)  
Make sure the difference between the left rudder positions is less than 0.02 inch.

 (3)  Disconnect the pushrod to the nose wheel steering (Fig. 503).
 NOTE: You do not need to disconnect the nose gear steering if the
____ the nose gear is fully extended after the airplane is on jack.

 (4)  
Do a test of the rudder centering:

 (a)  
Supply the rudder hydraulic power systems A and B
 (Ref 27-21-00/201).


 (b)  
Move the captain's left rudder pedal approximately 0.5 inch forward and release. 1) Make sure the rudder goes back to the neutral position.

 (c)  
Move the captain's right rudder pedal approximately 0.5 inch forward and release. 1) Make sure the rudder goes back to the neutral position.

Set the FLT CONTROL A and B switches to OFF, and then one of the two switches to STDBY RUD.
