Procedure

 S 865-045
 (1)
Do this task: "Remove the Elevator Hydraulic Systems A and B" (AMM 27-31-00/201).

 (2)
Use the trammel bar to set the B dimension at 41.57 |0.05 inches.

 (3)
Do this task: "Null Procedure - Mach Trim Actuator" (AMM 27-31-00/201).

 S 735-048

 (4)
Do the friction and balance test of the elevator surface:

 (a)
Move the control columns in a longitudinal direction through full travel 20 times.

CAUTION: DO NOT PUT A LOAD OF MORE THAN 65 POUND ON THE ELEVATORS
_______ AT ONE TIME. IF THE LOAD IS TOO HEAVY, IT CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE ELEVATORS.
 (b)
Measure the breakaway forces: 1) Hold the captain's control column at the neutral position. 2) Push the elevator with your hand until the trailing edge of

each elevator aligns with the index mark, then release (Fig. 505).

 (c)
If the elevator trailing edge moves down from the index mark, do the balance adjustment (SRM 51-80-02).

 (d)
If one of the two trailing edges do not stay at the index mark, use the spring scale to measure the force required to move them back. 1) Measure the force that you use to move the trailing edge up

0.75 |0.15 inch from the index mark (which is referred to
as the up force). 2) Make a record of this force. 3) Measure the force that you use to move the trailing edge
down 0.75 |0.15 inch from the index mark (which is referred to as the down force). 4) If the down force is less than the up force, do the balance adjustment (SRM 51-60-04).
 5)  If the down force is greater than the up force, calculate the sum of these two forces. a) If the sum of these two forces is less than 16 pound,
do the test of the elevator limit travel. b) If the sum of these two forces is more than 16 pounds, do the elevator balance panel test (AMM 27-31-41/501).
 S 865-059
 (5)  Do this task: "Put the Elevator Hydraulic Systems A and B Back to the Condition Before the Pressure Removal" (AMM 27-31-00/201).
