4) Torque nut 30 - 50 pound-inches. Make sure that torque remains at 30 - 50 pound-inches after alignment of the nut castellations and bolt cotter pin holes.
NOTE: A minimum gap of 0.010 inch is required between
____ the thread ends of the bolts used at the attachment of the aft end of the elevator tab push rods. Operators are permitted to install up to two washers under each bolt head to obtain this minimum clearance.
5) Make sure that each bolt has proper protrusion through the nut.
(c) Install the pin retainer.

(7) Use the spring scale and a loading block to measure the breakaway
force (Fig. 405):
(a) Slowly turn the elevator by hand through full travel.
1) Make sure the elevator moves freely.
(b) Apply a force to the elevator rear spar, adjacent to the
inboard rib.
1) If the elevator moves after you release it at the neutral
position (index mark), write down the maximum force needed
to slowly move it back to the neutral position.
2) Measure the force at the time the elevator reaches the
neutral position (index mark).
3) The difference between these forces must not be more than
1.0 pound.

(8) Attach the elevator control pushrod to the elevator (Fig. 405):
(a) Move the elevators to the neutral position.
(b) With the bolt head inboard, install the bolt from the inner
side of the tail cone.
(c) Tighten the inner nut to 500-600 pound-inches.
(d) Tighten the outer nut to 150-220 pound-inches.
NOTE: Do not tighten the inner nut again after you tighten the____
outer nut.

(9) Remove the rig pin E-5 from the aft control quadrant.

(10) Do this task: "Put the Elevator Hydraulic Systems A and B Back to
the Condition Before the Pressure Removal" (Ref 27-31-00/201).

(11) If the elevator tab position measurements were not recorded before
removal, do this task: "Adjustment - Elevator and Tab Control
ú System" (AMM 27-31-00/501).

ú NOTE: If you install the same elevator that you removed, and____
ú no adjustments to the elevator system have been made, then it
ú is not necessary to do the adjustment of the elevator system.
ú Only the adjustment of the tab control system is required.
