 (c)  
If one or the two trailing edges do not stay at the index mark, use the spring scale and the loading block to move them back. 1) Measure and write down the maximum force needed to slowly

 move the elevator back to the neutral position (index mark). 2) Measure the force at the time the elevator reaches the neutral position (index mark). 3) Make sure the difference between these two forces is not more than one pound. 4) Write down the difference between these two forces.

 (d)  
If one or the two trailing edges stay at the index mark, use the spring scale and the loading block to measure the forces. 1) Measure the force that you use to move the trailing edge up


 2.0 |1.0 inches from the index mark. 2) Make a record of this force. 3) Measure the force that you use to move the elevator
 trailing edge down 2.0 |1.0 inches from the index mark. 4) Make sure the difference between these two forces is not more than one pound. 5) Write down the difference between these two forces.
 (e)  Move each elevator by hand through full travel in the two directions. 1) Make sure the elevators move smoothly and freely.

 CAUTION: DO NOT PERMIT THE INNER RACE OF THE ELEVATOR MAST FITTING CRANK
_______ BEARING TO TURN TO A POSITION WHERE THE ROLLERS CAN FALL OUT THROUGH THE HOLE IN THE INNER RACE.
 (7)  
Connect each elevator control pushrod to its elevator:

 (a)  
Make sure the elevator trailing edges are in the full down position.


 CAUTION: MAKE SURE YOU INSTALL THE CLEVIS OF THE ELEVATOR CONTROL
_______ PUSHROD CORRECTLY. YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE ELEVATORS WHEN YOU MOVE THE CONTROL COLUMNS.
 (b)  Slowly move the control columns fully forward.

 (c)  
Hold the control columns at the fully forward position and attach DO-NOT-MOVE tags.

 (d)  
Install each mounting bolt with the bolt head inboard.

 (e)  
Tighten the first locknut to 500-600 pound-inches.


 CAUTION: DO NOT TRY TO TIGHTEN THE FIRST LOCKNUT AGAIN AFTER YOU
_______ TIGHTENED THE SECOND LOCKNUT. YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE COMPONENT.
 (f)  Tighten the second locknut to 150-220 pound-inches.

Release control columns to the neutral position and remove the DO-NOT-MOVE tags.

 (9)  
Measure the elevator limits of travel in the two directions.

 (a)  
Move the elevators up through full travel.
 1) Make sure the elevator trailing edges move

 

 14.60 +0.30/-0.55 inches from the index mark.
 (b)  Move the elevators down through full travel.
 1) Make sure the elevator trailing edges move

 10.55 +0.20/-0.30 inches from the index mark.

 (10) Do this task:  "Put the Elevator Hydraulic Systems A and B Back to the Condition Before the Pressure Removal" (AMM 27-31-00/201).
