Move the control column lightly in a longitudinal direction to make sure the system is in the center position. 1) Make sure the trailing edge of the right elevator aligns
with the index mark in 0.04 inch or less.

(k) Apply masking tape on the tail cone along the travel direction of the elevator trailing edge.
NOTE: You can use the elevator travel measuring tool as an____ alternative to the tape method.

Set the FLT CONTROL B switch to OFF and the FLT CONTROL A
switch ON.
Move the control column to align the trailing edge of the right
elevator with the index in +/- 0.04 inch.
Measure the distance between the elevator bottom edge and the
tab bottom edge (Fig. 511).
NOTE: This is the left tab neutral position (LTNP) and the
____ right tab neutral position (RTNP).

Calculate the tab travel:
1) Move the captain's control column aft until it touches the stop and hold. a) Make sure the trailing edge of the right elevator moves up 14.60 +0.30/-0.55 inches from the index mark. b) Measure and write the left tab down position (LTDP). c) Measure and write the right tab down position (RTDP).
