Procedure


 S 224-008
 (1)  
Do this task: "Elevator Power Control Unit Wear Limits Inspection" (Ref 27-31-14/601).

 (a)  
If it is applicable, remove the elevator rigging and restraining tool.


 S 424-007
 (2)  
Install the elevator PCU:

 (a)  
Set the elevator PCU in the aft compartment.

 (b)  
Install the upper mounting bolt in the output torque tube.

 (c)  
Apply grease to the bolt.

 (d)  
Install the bolt with the bolt head inboard.

 (e)  
Install the nut and the washer.

 (3)  S 434-009Install the rod end of the elevator PCU to the mounting bracket: (a) Apply grease to the bolt. (b) Install the left bolt with the bolt head inboard and the right bolt with the bolt head outboard. (c) Install the first locknut. 1) Tighten the locknut to 550-600 pound-inches.
 CAUTION:_______ DO NOT TIGHTEN THE FIRST LOCKNUT AGAIN AFTER YOU TIGHTEN THE SECOND LOCKNUT. YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT.
 (d) (e) (f)  Install the second locknut. 1) Tighten the locknut to 225-250 pound-inches.Move the elevator PCU to the fully retracted position.Make sure the interference between the PCU and the reaction link is in the limits of Fig. 403: 1) If it is necessary, cut the interference area on the reaction link. 2) Apply the alodine and the primer to the area that you cut on the reaction link.
 (4)  S 434-010Install the input rod to the input crank: (a) Apply grease to the bolt assembly. (b) Install the bolt assembly with the bolt head facing left. 1) Install a washer below the bolt head (c) Tighten the outer bolt to 45-60 pound-inches.
 CAUTION:_______ DO NOT TIGHTEN THE OUTER BOLT AGAIN AFTER YOU TIGHTEN THE LOCKNUT. YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT.
 (d)  Install the locknut with a washer on the end of the inner bolt. 1) Tighten the locknut to 15-20 pound-inches.
 (5)  S 094-011Remove the plugs and caps from the hydraulic lines and the PCU ports.
 (6)  S 434-012Connect the two flexible hydraulic lines to the elevator PCU.
 (7)  S 094-013Remove the rig pin E-5 from the aft control quadrant.
