RUDDER AND RUDDER TRIM CONTROL SYSTEM - MAINTENANCE PRACTICES
_____________________________________________________________
1. General_______
A. This procedure contains two tasks. The first task contains the data necessary to pressurize hydraulic systems A, B and standby. The second task contains the data necessary to remove the pressure from hydraulic systems A, B and standby.
B. Hydraulic systems A, B and standby must have the pressure removed before maintenance is done on the rudder control system. This is to prevent injury to persons because of accidental operation of the control system while you do maintenance. You must be careful to put maintenance stands and equipment away from control surface travel.
C. Electric pump 1 pressurizes hydraulic system B and electrical pump 2 pressurizes hydraulic system A. Electric pump 1 heat exchanger is installed in the fuel tank 2. Electric pump 2 heat exchanger is installed in fuel tank 1. When you operate the hydraulic pumps to pressurize the hydraulic systems, you must obey these steps:
(1)
Make sure not less than 250 gallons (1675 pounds/760 kilograms) of fuel is contained in fuel tank 1 or 2 to absorb the unwanted heat from the hydraulic fluid. On hot days, or when fuel temperature is known to be aobve 90°F (32.2°C), monitor the system B overheat indicator and turn pumps off when the hydraulic fluid becomes too hot.
D.
This procedure contains pressurization of hydraulic system A and B by operating the electric hydraulic system A or B pumps. Pressurization of the hydraulic systems with the engine-driven hydraulic pumps is not given.
