Do a test of the rudder hinge friction:
(a)
Remove the rudder hydraulic power systems A, B, and standby (AMM 27-21-00/201).
(b)
Make sure the rudder and rudder pedals are in the neutral position.
(c)
Make sure the rudder trim indicator is at zero units of trim.
(d)
Attach the dial indicator at the lower end of the rudder trailing edge.
CAUTION: USE A LOADING BLOCK AND DO NOT PUT MORE THAN 50 POUNDS ON
_______ THE RUDDER WHEN YOU MOVE THE RUDDER SURFACE BY AN EXTERNAL FORCE. MAKE SURE THE EXTERNAL FORCE IS APPROXIMATELY 46.9 INCHES FROM THE RUDDER HINGE LINE BETWEEN RUDDER STATIONS
13.33 AND 31.65. YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE RUDDER.
(e) Use the loading block and scale to move the rudder fully to the left side. 1) Verify that there is no sign of binding, rough spots or
excessive friction at any point of travel.
a) If binding or excessive friction exist, the bearings may be out of alignment, damaged or improperly installed. Correct the condition and repeat this check.

Do a test of the rudder pedal forces:
(a)
Supply the rudder hydraulic power systems A and B
(Ref 27-21-00/201).

Make sure the rudder pedals are in the neutral position.
(c)
Set the captain's and the first officer's pedal adjustment to the middle position.
(d)
Install the checking tool on the captain's right rudder pedal (Fig. 506).
NOTE: When you use the rudder pedal force checking tool,
____ multiply the compression gage value by a multiplication factor from the table on Fig. 506. You must measure the forces with the pedal moving away from the neutral position. If the pedal moves more than the specified distance, you must repeat the test and start with the pedal at neutral position.
1) Push on the tool handle until the rudders start to move. 2) Make sure the compression gage shows 18.0 pounds or less.
