Deadband Test for the Standby Rudder Actuator

 (1)  
Push the rudder with your hands to the right side, then slowly remove your hands.

 (a)  
Move your hands away from the rudder.

 (b)  
Measure the position of the rudder.


 NOTE: Measure from the lower corner of the rudder trailing
____ edge to a point on the rudder index plate.

Push the rudder with your hands to the left side, then slowly remove your hands.

 (a)  
Move your hands away from the rudder.

 (b)  
Measure the position of the rudder.

Calculate the difference between the two dimensions you measured.

If the difference in the rudder position is more than 0.2 inch, adjust the input rod of the standby rudder actuator.

 (1)  
Measure the two clearances, X1 and X2, shown in Fig. 601, View B.

 (a)  
Calculate the difference in clearance.


 NOTE: X1-X2 = Difference in clearance.

 (b)  If the difference in clearance is less than 0.015 inch, replace the rod bearing housing.
