Remove the elevator hydraulic power for systems A and B (AMM 27-31-00/201).
(2)
Open the access doors 3801 or 3802.

(3) S 014-015Remove the access panels 9107, 9108, and 9109 (for the left side), or 9207, 9208, and 9209 (for the right side).
(4) S 494-004Install the rig pin E-5 in the aft control quadrant.
(5) S 024-006Remove the elevator balance panel (3) (Fig. 402): (a) Remove bolts that attach the bulb seals (2) at the panel (3).

(b) Remove the bulb seals (2).
CAUTION: THE WEIGHT OF THE BALANCE PANEL CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE
_______
IDLER HINGE SEAL.
(c)
Hold the balance panel to keep the weight off the bolts while you remove them.
(d)
Remove eleven bolts (5) that attach the forward end of the panel (3) to the idler hinge (9).
(e)
Remove six bolts (4) that attach the end of the panel (3) to the elevator nose (11).
NOTE: On some balance panel installations, it is necessary to
____ remove the balance weights to get access to the aft mounting bolts (4).
(f)
Remove the balance panel (3) and the hinge seal (6) from the airplane.
(g)
Remove the screws that attach the flat seals (7) at the idler hinge (9).
(h)
Remove the flat seals (7).
(i)
Remove 15 nuts and bolts that attach the idler hinge (9) to the stabilizer support beam (8).
(j)
Remove the idler hinge (9) and the idler hinge seal (10) from the airplane.

(1) Rig Pin E-5 - 0.309/0.311-inch diameter, 6.7 |0.25 inches long (MS20392-4)
NOTE: The rig pin is part of the rig pin kit F70207-69, -78 or -83.
