Open the two forward center ceiling panels in the main deck compartment (in front of the No. 1 door) to get access to the rudder forward quadrants.

Open the second inboard ceiling panel (panel No. 241CL) aft of the No. 2 door in the main deck compartment for access to the turnbuckles.

Procedure

(1)
Do these steps before you remove the right rudder forward quadrant:
(a)
Install a clamp on cables RA and RB (to keep the cables tight) aft of the turnbuckles at ceiling panel No. 241CL.
(b)
Loosen the turnbuckles to loosen cables RA and RB. Loosen the cables together to keep the tension the same in each cable.
(c)
Disconnect cables RA and RB from the rudder forward quadrant.
(d)
Put tags on the cables for identification.

Do these steps to remove the rudder forward quadrant:
(a)
Disconnect the bus rod from the rudder forward quadrant.
(b)
Disconnect the pushrods, for the rudder pedals, from the rudder forward quadrant.
(c)
For the left rudder forward quadrant, disconnect the pushrod for the nose wheel steering.
(d)
For the right rudder forward quadrant, disconnect the pushrod to the position transducer.
(e)
Remove the clamps from the flexshaft.
(f)
Disconnect the shaft retaining nut from the flexshaft.
(g)
Hold the shaft retaining nut and the washer and pull the flexshaft clear of the support structure.
(h)
Remove the two bolts that attach the ceiling support clip to the support beam for the lower bearing.
(i)
Remove the ceiling support clip from the support tee.
NOTE: If the ceiling support clip is attached with rivets,

drill the rivets.

Remove the two bolts at each end of the support beam for the lower bearing.
(k)
Remove the drip shield panel (inboard of the quadrant assembly) to get access to the bolts for the upper bearing housing.
(l)
Remove the four bolts that attach the upper bearing housing to the airplane.
