(1)
Do the task to prepare for the removal of the PCA.

Disconnect the hydraulic lines H3 and H4 from the center actuator:
(a)
Put a bucket below the actuator to catch the hydraulic fluid.
(b)
Disconnect the hydraulic lines from the actuator.
(c)
Install caps on the hydraulic lines.

Remove the center actuator (6):
(a)
Remove the nut (30) and washer (28).
(b)
Remove the three bolts (20 and 36).
(c)
Remove the support assembly (33).
(d)
Move the summing lever (31) away from the actuator fitting.
(e)
Remove the bolt assembly (29).
(f)
Use the fishpole hoist and the hoist frame equipment to hold the actuator (6).
(g)
Remove the four bolts (11) and washers (12) that attach the actuator (6) to the pillow block (3).
(h)
Retract the piston in the actuator (4).
(i)
Install the caps on the hydraulic ports.
(j)
Remove the actuator through the opening in the right side of the vertical stabilizer.
(k)
Remove the shim (10).
NOTE: You will install this shim (10) in the same location.
____ If a replacement shim is necessary, measure the thickness of the shim (10) and make a record of the dimension and location.

If you will not install the center actuator immediately, do these steps to install the rudder actuator lock (referred to as the lock):
(a)
Put the lock in the location of the actuator that you removed.
(b)
Attach the lock to the pillow block (3) with its four bolts.
(c)
Adjust the length of the lock until you can connect it to the rudder with the pin.
(d)
Install the three lockpins in the lock.
(e)
Remove the rudder clamp from between the upper and lower rudder.
