Procedure

(1)
Do these steps to install the rudder clamp, and remove the rudder actuator lock (referred to as the lock):
(a)
Make sure the lower rudder is aligned with the upper rudder.

(b)
Install the rudder clamp between the upper and the lower rudder approximately two inches from the trailing edge.
(c)
Remove the pin that connects the lock to the rudder.
(d)
Remove the four bolts that attach the lock to the pillow block (3).
(e)
Remove the lock from the airplane.

Examine the parts that attach the actuator for worn areas.

Retract the actuator (6).

Use the fishpole hoist and the hoist frame equipment to install the upper actuator (4):
(a)
Install the shim (10) on the pillow block (3).
NOTE: Install the same shim (10) that you removed from this
____ location. If a replacement shim is necessary, measure the thickness of the used shim (10). Remove the laminations on the new shim until it has the same thickness.
(b)
Put the actuator in its position with the hydraulic ports on the right side.
(c)
Put the actuator (4) on the pillow block (3) and the trunnion (2).
CAUTION:_______INSTALL A NEW WASHER (12) AT ALL FOUR BOLTS (11). IF YOU TIGHTEN A BOLT AND THEN LOOSEN IT, YOU MUST REPLACE THE WASHER. THE TORQUE ON THE BOLTS CAN BE INCORRECT IF YOU INSTALL USED WASHERS.
(d)
Install a new torque indication washer (12) with the
countersink to the head of the bolt (11).
(e)
Install the four bolts (11).
(f)
Tighten the bolts (11) until you cannot turn the center of the torque indication washers (12) by hand.
(g)
Remove the caps from the hydraulic ports.

(h)
Put the rod end of the actuator (4) in its position in the upper rudder attachment fitting (15).
(i)
Make sure that the bushing (19) is installed in the attachment fitting.
(j)
Install the bolt (13), washers (14 and 17) and nut (16).
(k)
Tighten the nut (16) to 800-1000 pound-inches more than the run-on torque.

Fill the bolt holes in the pillow block (3) forward of the bolts (11) with sealant.

Install the clamp (18) on the upper actuator (4).

Connect the hydraulic lines H1 and H2 to the upper actuator (4):
(a)
Remove the caps from the hydraulic lines.
(b)
Apply hydraulic fluid or assembly lube to the hydraulic fittings.
(c)
Connect the hydraulic lines H1 and H2.

Do the task to put the airplane back to its usual condition.

(9)
Do the operational test of the upper rudder PCP (AMM 27-21-15/501).
