Prepare for the Installation


 S 224-011
 (1)  
Examine the parts that attach the rudder feel, centering and trim mechanism for worn areas (AMM 27-21-11/601).

 S 824-044

 (2)  
Adjust the tension in the springs (16 and 17):

 (a)  
Make sure there is no tension in the springs (16 and 17).

 (b)  
Install a spring scale on the end of the input crank (29) to measure the force necessary to move the cam roller out of the detent.


 NOTE: The cam roller is out of the detent when you can install
____ a 0.002 to 0.004-inch shim between the roller and the cam on the side with no load.
 (c)  Tighten the nut (24) for the spring (16) until the force necessary to move the cam out of the detent is 5.50-6.00 pounds.

 (d)  
Tighten the nut (24) for the spring (17) until the force necessary to move the cam out of the detent is 11.50-12.50 pounds.

 (e)  
Remove the spring scale from the input crank.

 (f)  
Make sure the cam roller is in the detent.

 (g)  
Make sure the clearance between the two retainers (27) and the bushings (22) is 0.005 to 0.030 inch.

 (3)  
Remove the nut (36) and washers (32) from the feel, centering and trim mechanism (4).

 (4)  
Remove the spacer (31) and the washer (32) from the feel, centering and trim mechanism (4).

 (a)  
Make sure the bearings (33 and 34) are installed.

Procedure


 S 424-015
 (1)  
Install the feel, centering and trim mechanism (4):

 (a)  
Put the feel, centering and trim mechanism in the support bracket.


 NOTE: Make sure the bearings (33 and 34) stay installed.

 (b)  
Install the bolt (30) and washer (39).

 (c)  
Install the nuts (38 and 37) on the bolt (30). 1) Tighten the large nut (38) to 70-90 pound-inches. 2) Tighten the small nut (37) to 50-70 pound-inches.


 NOTE: Do not tighten the large nut (38) after you tighten
____ the small nut (37).
 (d)  Install the bolt (40), washers (41, 42 and 43) and nut (44) that connect the rudder trim actuator (2) to the crank assembly (3).

 (e)  
Connect the control rod (1) to the output crank with the bolt (18), washer (19) and nut (20). 1) Tighten the nut (20).

 (f)  
Connect the control rod (25) to the output crank with the bolt (18), washer (19) and nut (20). 1) Tighten the nut.
