(RUDDER OUTSIDE STABILIZER CONTOUR)

MAXIMUM RUDDER DEFLECTION
0.20 INCH
MEASURE STABILIZER TO UPPER AND LOWER RUDDER MISMATCH AT EACH RUDDER HINGE RIB (6 PLACES FOR UPPER RUDDER AND 4 PLACES FOR LOWER RUDDER).
REMOVE LAMINATIONS FROM THE SHIM IF IT IS NECESSARY TO FORM A TAPER TO MEET THE SEAL GAP REQUIREMENTS.
FILL CAVITY WITH BMS 5-95 SEALANT.


TRAINING EDGE FIN SEAL-TO-RUDDER CLEARANCE. CLEARANCE (BEAM AND SEAL INSTALLATION) TOLERANCE IS APPLICABLE TO INITIAL RUDDER INSTALLATION ONLY. CLEARANCE OF 0.040 TO
0.160 INCH IS PERMITTED WHEN THE AVERAGE CLEARANCE IS 0.095 INCH OR LESS. GET THE AVERAGE CLEARANCE BY TAKING THE SUM OF 10 EQUALLY SPACED MEASUREMENTS ALONG THE FULL LENGTH OF THE BUDE SEAL AND DIVIDING BY 10.

 WARNING:_______ MAKE SURE PERSONS AND EQUIPMENT ARE CLEAR BELOW THE RUDDERS.
 OBJECTS CAN FALL AND CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO
 EQUIPMENT.

 (1)  
Do these steps to attach the lower rudder to the vertical fin.

 (a)  
Lift the lower rudder into its position.

 (b)  
Install the bushing (50) in hinge No. 3.

 (c)  
Align the lower rudder with the hinges.

 (d)  
Apply a thin layer of grease to the pins (35, 49), and the bolts (1) for the hinges.

 (e)  
Install the pin (35) in hinge No. 2.

 (f)  
Install the pin (49) and the washer (51) in hinge No. 3.

 (g)  
Install the bolts (1), the washers (2, 4), the bushings (5), and the nuts (3) in hinges No. 1 and 4. Do not tighten the nuts (3).

 (h)  
Make sure the lockwashers (6) are installed correctly at hinges No. 1 and 4.

 (i)  
Lower the rudder until the bushing (50) (at hinge No. 3) has no clearance above it or below it.

 (j)  
Tighten the threaded bushings (46, 36), in hinges No. 2 and 3, with your hand. Tighten them until there is no clearance between them and the bearings in the vertical fin.

 (k)  
Install the washers (45), and the nuts (43) at hinges No. 2 and


 3. Also, install the washers (44) until the lockbolts (40)
 engage the nuts (43) correctly.
 1) Tighten the nuts (43) to 2000 - 2400 pound-inches.
 2) If it is necessary, tighten the nuts (43) to a maximum of

 3200 pound-inches to let you install the lockbolt (40).
 (l)  
Install the lockbolt (40), the washer (41), and the nut (42).

 (m)  
Install lockwire on the pins (35, 49), and the threaded bushings (46, 36).

 (n)  
Put sealant into the lockwire holes that are in the actuator clevises. Fully fill the holes, and put a bead of sealant around the holes.

 (o)  
Tighten the nuts (3) to 230-360 pound-inches.

 (2)  
Clean the mating surfaces for the bonding jumpers.

 S 434-031

 (3)  
Install the bolt (37), the washer (38), and the nut (39) to connect the bonding jumpers.

 S 764-032

 (4)  
Use a bonding meter to make sure the resistance of the bonding jumper connection is less than 0.010 ohms.
