Connect the bonding jumper (20) to the rudder. 1) Use the milliohmmeter to make sure there is a maximum of
0.01 ohms between the rudder and the vertical fin.
(g)
Install the bushings (24) (2 locations).
(h)
Install the bolt (23), the washers (33, 30), and the nut (28). Tighten the bolt to (23) 1300-2000 pound-inches.
(i)
Install the cotter pin (29).

Do these steps to install hinge No. 7 or 8.
(a)
Apply corrosion preventive compound to the vertical fin, where the bearing assembly (1) will touch it.
(b)
Put the bearing assembly (1) in its position on the vertical fin.
(c)
Install the bolts (2), the washer (3), and the nut (4) (8 locations).
(d)
If the actuators were disconnected from the upper rudder, connect the actuators to the upper rudder (Ref 27-21-15/401).
(e)
Connect the bonding jumper (20) to the rudder.
(f)
Apply a thin layer of grease to the pins (34, 35), or (43, 44).
(g)
Install the pins (34, 35) in hinge No. 7, or the bushing (22) and the pins (43, 44) in hinge No. 8. Also, install the antirotation lug (36).

Tighten the threaded bushing(s) (12) with your hand until there is no clearance between the bushing and the bearing.
(i)
On hinge No. 7, install washers (42) until you get a 0.02-0.05 inch clearance between the bushings (12) and the washers.
(j)
Apply sealant to the mating surfaces of the washers (42) and the bushings (12).
(k)
Install the washer (18), and the nut (17). Also, install the washers (19) until the lockbolt (14) engages the nut (17) correctly. 1) Tighten the nut (17) to 2000-2400 pound-inches. 2) If it is necessary, tighten the nut (17) to a maximum of
3200 pound-inches to let you install the lockbolt (14).
(l)
Install the washer (38), and the nut (40). Also, install the washers (39) until the cotter pin (41) engages the nut (40) correctly. 1) Tighten the nut (40) to 300-500 pound-inches.
(m)
Install the lockbolt (14), the washer (15), and the nut (16).
(n)
Install the cotter pin (41).

NOTE: Do this to make sure the nose landing gear does not move.
