Prepare to Install the Upper Rudder

If you will install a used bolt, sleeve bushing, or bearing, make sure it is not worn too much.

Make sure the seals for the rudder are in good condition (Fig. 403).

Attach the sling assembly to the upper rudder.

Make sure the threaded bushings (52) of hinges No. 7 and 8 are fully retracted (Fig. 404).

Attach the sling assembly to the crane.
NOTE: We recommend that you use a load positioner (also called a
____ Zero G device) to let you manually move the upper rudder.
H. Procedure

WARNING: MAKE SURE PERSONS AND EQUIPMENT ARE CLEAR BELOW THE RUDDERS.
_______ OBJECTS CAN FALL AND CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(1)
Do these steps to attach the upper rudder to the airplane.
(a)
Lift the upper rudder to its position.
(b)
Align the upper rudder with the hinges.
(c)
Apply a thin layer of grease to the pins (48, 49, 64, 65).
(d)
Install the pins (48, 49), and the antirotation lug (50) at hinge No. 7.
(e)
Install the bushing (68) in hinge No. 8.
(f)
Install the pins (64, 65), and the antirotation lug (66) at hinge No. 8.
(g)
Apply a thin layer of grease to the bolts (38) and (1).
(h)
Install the bushings (39), the washer (37), and the bolt (38) in hinge No. 6.
