(5) Pull the sling up (with the crane) to hold the weight of the lower rudder.
NOTE: The lower rudder weighs approximately 310 pounds.

Remove the bolt (32) to disconnect the control rod of the position transmitter from the lower rudder.

Hold the control rod in a position that is clear of the rudder.

Do these steps to remove the lower rudder from the airplane.
(a)
Disconnect the bonding jumpers (47) at hinges No. 1, 2, 3 and 4 from the front spar of the rudder.
(b)
Remove the lockbolt (40) and the nut (43) at hinge No. 2.
(c)
At hinge No. 2, loosen the threaded bushings (46, 36) until their ends are fully retracted.
(d)
Remove the pin (35) from hinge No. 2.
(e)
Remove the lockbolt (40) and the nut (43) at hinge No. 3.
(f)
At hinge No. 3, loosen the threaded bushing (46) until its end is fully retracted.
(g)
Remove the pin (49) from hinge No. 3.
(h)
Remove the nuts (3) and the bolts (1) from hinges No. 1 and 4.
(i)
Move the lower rudder (11) left (with your hand) until it is clear of the airplane.
(j)
When you put the rudder on the ground, do these steps: 1) Put the bottom edge of the rudder on a soft material. 2) Put the rudder on its side.
