NOTE: One turn of the rod end and the knurled adjuster nut
____ together is equivalent to 2.1 inches of travel at the rudder trailing edge. One turn of the rod end (when the knurled adjuster nut does not move) is equivalent to 1.6 inches of travel at the rudder trailing edge.
 7)  Connect the input rod to the output crank of the feel, centering, and trim mechanism with the bolt, washer, and nut.
 8)  Remove the DO-NOT-CLOSE tags and close these circuit breakers on the P180 panel: a) 180H8, ELEV/RUD VLV SYS 1 b) 180H23, ELEV/RUD VLV SYS 3
 9)  Find the switches for the FLT CONTROL HYD POWER on the pilot's overhead maintenance panel, P461: a) Put the No. 1 and No. 3 tail switches in the NORM
 position.
 (e)  Small adjustment: 1) Loosen the clamp bolt on the input rod.
NOTE: This is at the feel, centering, and trim end of the
____
 input rod.

 2) Loosen the locknuts on the input rod.
 3) Turn the knurled adjuster nut.

NOTE: One turn of the knurled adjuster nut is equivalent
____ to 0.5 inches of travel at the rudder trailing edge.

 (f)
Tighten the locknuts on the input rod.

 (g)
If procedure 1 was used to extend the actuator, push the LSK that is adjacent to END TEST> on the CDU.

 (h)
If procedure 2 was used to extend the actuator, slowly release the pressure from the pitot static system (Ref 34-11-00/201).

NOTE: The left and the right pitot probes must have the
____ pressure released at the same time. If they do not, the SRM will set the comparison fault on the Digital Air Data Computer (DADC). This stops the rudder ratio changer.
 S 825-050
 (6)  Do the steps above until the rudder moves less than 0.06 inch when you pressurize the pitot static system.
 S 225-029
CAUTION:_______MAKE SURE THE ROD ENDS ARE ENGAGED CORRECTLY. IF THE ROD ENDS ARE NOT ENGAGED CORRECTLY, THE ROD CAN BREAK.
 (7)
Make sure you can see the threads of the rod end through the inspection holes in the input rod.

 S 215-057

 (8)
Make sure you cannot see more than 10 threads adjacent to each of the locknuts.

 S 865-030

 (9)
If it is not released, slowly release the pressure from the pitot static system (Ref 34-11-00/201).

 S 865-031

 (10)
Remove the DO-NOT-CLOSE tags and close these circuit breakers:

 (a)
P180, DC Power Distribution Panel
 1) 180E7, ELEV/RUD VLV SYS 2
 2) 180E22, ELEV/RUD VLV SYS 4

 S 865-032
 (11)
Find the switches for the FLT CONTROL HYD POWER on the pilot's overhead maintenance panel, P461:

 (a)
Put the No. 2 and No. 4 tail switches in the NORM position.

 (12)
Put the lower rudder in its center position.

 (13)
Make sure the trailing edge of the upper rudder is aligned with the lower rudder. If the trailing edge of the upper rudder is not aligned by more than 0.20 inch with the lower rudder, adjust the power control package for the upper rudder (Ref 27-21-15/501).

 S 095-058

 (14)
Remove rig pin R-4 from the feel, centering, and trim mechanism.

 S 715-059

 (15)
Do the task below to do a test of the rudder ratio changer.

 S 095-070

 (16)
Remove rig pin E-2 from the bottom of the elevator aft quadrant.

 TASK 27-21-12-715-039
 3.  Rudder Ratio Changer Operational Test_____________________________________
 A. General
 (1)
There are two tests in this task. In the first test you look for messages on EICAS and the CDU. In the second test you make sure the rudder moves the correct distance at low and high air speeds. Do the two tests to make sure the rudder ratio changers are serviceable.
