WARNING:_______MAKE SURE THE NOSE LANDING GEAR IS POINTED FORWARD. IF THE TIRES ARE NOT PARALLEL WITH THE AIRPLANE, THEY CAN TURN QUICKLY WHEN YOU REMOVE THE TOW PIN. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(1) Install the TOW PIN at the steering metering valve for the nose landing gear (Ref 09-11-00/201).
NOTE: You do this to make sure the nose landing gear does not turn.

(4) S 865-023Find the switches for the FLT CONTROL HYD POWER on the Pilots' Overhead Maintenance Panel, P461. (a) Put the four TAIL switches in the SHUTOFF position.
(5) S 015-025Remove these access panels (AMM 06-09-07/201): (a) 324FL and 324FR for access to the feel, centering, and trim mechanism, the rudder trim actuator, and the rudder position transmitters. (b) 324DL and 324DR for access to the power control package and rudder ratio changer for the lower rudder. (c) 324HL and 324HR for access to the power control package and the rudder ratio changer for the upper rudder.
(6) S 015-187Open these ceiling panels in the main deck compartment (AMM 25-59-01/401). (a) The three farthest forward ceiling panels in the main deck.
NOTE:____ This is to get access to the rudder pedal assemblies and the rudder forward quadrants.
(b) The left inboard ceiling panel that is in the second row of ceiling panels aft of the No. 2 door.
NOTE:____ This is for access to the turnbuckles of the cables RA and RB.

Adjust the Rudder and the Rudder Trim System

Do these steps to find if the rudder pedals are adjusted correctly (Fig. 501).
(a)
Adjust the rudder pedals to their center position with these steps: 1) Use the adjustment crank to move the rudder pedals to their
fully forward position. 2) Turn the adjustment crank back 6.5 turns from the fully forward position.
(b)
Install rig pin R3 in the rudder forward quadrant.
(c)
Make sure rig pins R-1 and R-2 go freely in the rig pin holes in the pedal arms and the cabin floor intercostal. If the rig pins do not go in freely, adjust the rudder pedals.

Do these steps to adjust the rudder pedals (Fig. 501).
(a)
Make sure rig pin R-3 is installed.
(b)
Make sure the rudder pedals are adjusted to their center position (refer to the steps above).
(c)
Disconnect the aft end of the pushrod for the rudder pedal(s) that you will adjust.
(d)
Install rig pin R-1 or R-2 in the pedal arm.
(e)
Loosen the locknut and turn the rod end to adjust the pushrod to the correct length.
(f)
Make sure you can see the threads of the rod end through the inspection holes in the pushrod.
