Clean all the bolts, the washers, the nuts, the inserts, and the mating surfaces with solvent.
S 432-017
(3)
Prepare bolt assemblies for installation.
(a)
Examine the O-rings (3 and 11) for worn areas or damage and replace them if it is necessary.
(b)
Apply a large quantity of grease to the O-rings (3 and 11).
(c)
Lubricate inserts (2 and 10) and the inner surface of bolts (1 and 12).
(d)
Put the O-rings (3) on the lubrication insert (2).
(e)
Lubricate the lubrication insert (2) again if it is necessary.
(f)
Put the O-rings (11) on the lubrication insert (10).
(g)
Lubricate the lubrication insert (10) again if it is necessary.
(h)
Put the lubrication insert (2) into the bolt (1).
(i)
Align the hole for the lockbolt.
(j)
Put the lubrication insert (10) into the bolt (12).
(k)
Align the hole for the lockbolt.

Procedure
S 422-018
(1)
Install the sling on the lower drag strut (9) and lift the strut into its position.
S 432-019
(2)
Install the apex bolt assembly into the lower drag strut.
(a)
Lubricate all the threads, washer faces, bolt shanks and bushing surfaces with grease immediately before the installation.
(b)
Install the apex bolt (1), the lubrication insert (2), and the O-rings (3) into the drag strut.
(c)
Install the washer (4) and the nut (5).
(d)
Tighten the nut to 10-15 pound-feet.
