(d)
Prepare the equipment and the persons to hold the inner cylinder while the cylinder comes off.
NOTE: The sling set is not necessary.
____
S 028-033
(7) Remove the seals.
CAUTION: WHEN YOU CUT THE SEAL, PUT A PROTECTION STRIP BETWEEN THE
_______ SEAL AND THE SURFACE OF THE INNER CYLINDER. THIS WILL PREVENT THE DAMAGE TO THE SURFACE OF THE INNER CYLINDER. THE NICKS OR SCRATCHES ON THE INNER CYLINDER CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE INNER CYLINDER. THEY WILL ALSO CAUSE DAMAGE TO SEALS WHILE THE SEALS MOVE THROUGH THE NICKS OR SCRATCHES.
(a)
Cut and remove the seals and the backup rings from around the inner cylinder (13).
(b)
Use the plastic tool to prevent damage to the inner cylinder surfaces.
S 118-034
(8)
Clean the inner cylinder (13) and other parts fully with hydraulic fluid specified on the shock strut nameplate.
S 428-035
(9)
Install the seals.
CAUTION: USE ONLY THE TYPE OF HYDRAULIC FLUID SHOWN ON THE
_______ SHOCK STRUT NAMEPLATE. DIFFERENT TYPES OF FLUID CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO SEALS.
CAUTION: SEALS MUST BE RESISTANT TO THE TYPE OF FLUID SHOWN ON THE
_______ SHOCK STRUT NAMEPLATE. THE INCORRECT TYPE OF FLUID CAN CAUSE SEAL DETERIORATION AND FLUID CONTAMINATION.
(a)
Soak three sets of new seals into the hydraulic fluid specified on the shock strut nameplate.
(b)
If it is necessary, apply a light layer of hydraulic assembly lubricant on the seals and the backup rings.
(c)
Rub the surface where the seal moves on during the assembly with hydraulic fluid to prevent rub.
(d)
Install the seals and the backup rings on the lower bearing.

MAINTENANCE MANUAL
CAUTION:_______ USE PRECAUTION TO PREVENT THE NICK OR THE SCRATCH TO THE
SURFACES OF THE INNER CYLINDER. THE NICKS OR THE SCRATCH
CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE LOWER BEARING, THE CENTERING CAM,
AND THE SEALS.
(e)
Carefully extend the lubricated new seals on the top of the bearing.
(f)
Carefully move the seals down through the inner cylinder (13) into the correct grooves in the lower bearing.
(g)
Prevent the unwanted extension of the seals.
CAUTION: BE CAREFUL NOT TO EXTEND THE SEAL MORE THAN NECESSARY.
_______ THIS WILL INCREASE THE PROBLEM FOR THE INSTALLATION.
(h) Put the washer, the lower bearing and the gland nut on top of
each other.
(i) Measure the height.
(j) Get the dimension as the dimension A (Fig. 802).
(k) Assemble the inner cylinder into the outer cylinder.
(l) Set the higher bearing split guide at the lower end of the
outer cylinder.
(m) Lubricate the seals with hydraulic assembly lubricant.
(n) Put the inner cylinder into the outer cylinder.
(o) Remove the split guide.
(p) Monitor the position of the keys in the lower centering cam.
(q) Use the inner cylinder wrench to set the lower cam in the outer
cylinder (2).
NOTE:____ Make sure the cam keys and rivets attach correctly
before put the cam into the outer cylinder (2)
(Fig. 801).
(r) Install the lower cam screw into the hole with finger tight
pressure to hold the cam in its position.
(s) Install the split guide for the lower gland into the lower end
of the outer cylinder (2).
S 588-037
(10)
Set the axle jack at the jack pad for the nose landing gear (AMM 07-11-03/201).
S 438-038
(11)
