(3)
Install the axle sleeve puller on the axle sleeve.
S 884-019
(4)
Increase the temperature of the axle sleeve:
(a)
Install the electrical heat blanket around the axle sleeve.
CAUTION: DO NOT PERMIT THE TEMPERATURE OF THE AXLE COMPONENTS TO
_______ BECOME 300°F FOR MORE THAN 180 MINUTES. THE MATERIALS FOR THE AXLE COMPONENTS CAN BECOME WEAK IF THE THERMAL LOADS ARE TOO LARGE. WEAK AXLE COMPONENTS CAN HAVE A FAILURE DURING OPERATION.
(b)
Permit the temperature of the axle sleeve to become approximately 250°F. 1) Use the thermometer to measure the temperature of the axle
sleeve. 2) As the temperature of the axle sleeve increases, slowly and continuously increase the tension on the puller.
(c)
When the axle sleeve starts to move, remove the electrical heat blanket. 1) If the axle sleeve does not move, add more dry ice to the
inner diameter of the axle.
NOTE: You must remove the axle sleeve puller to add more
____ dry ice to the axle.
S 024-020
(5) Immediately remove the axle sleeve with the axle sleeve puller before the component temperatures go to the ambient temperature.

(1)
Do a check of the fit of the axle sleeve (AMM 32-45-03/601).
S 884-024
(2)
Apply thermal loads to the axle and the axle sleeve:
WARNING:_______DO NOT GET THE DRY ICE ON YOUR SKIN. THE DRY ICE IS FROZEN CARBON DIOXIDE AT A TEMPERATURE OF APPROXIMATELY -120°F. THE COLD TEMPERATURE OF THE CARBON DIOXIDE CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS.
(a) Decrease the temperature of the axle with the dry ice.
1) Apply the dry ice to the inner diameter and the outer diameter of the axle.
NOTE: When the steam from the dry ice almost stops, the
____ axle temperature will be near the temperature of the dry ice (-120°F). This is the recommended condition.
2) Add more dry ice to the inner diameter of the axle to keep the axle at a constant temperature.
(b) Put the electrical heat blanket around the axle sleeve.
