 2)  Tighten to 10-15 pound-feet (13-20 Nm) and lock with the cotter pin.
 NOTE: If it is necessary, loosen the nut to align
____ the nearest castellation with the cotter pin hole.
 3)  Fully fill the nut and the head of the bolt with the sealant.
 G.  Nose Landing Gear Installation (Fig. 401).
 S 424-028
 (1)  
Install the nose landing gear.

 (a)  
Hold the lower and the upper tripod braces.

 (b)  
Put the gear in the vertical position below the nose wheel well.

 (c)  
Use the jacks on the wheel dolly to lift the gear to put the trunnion pins into the sidewall fittings.

 (d)  
Examine the trunnion cap bolts for damaged plating or damaged BMS 10-85 coating (gold colored paint finish).


 NOTE: If you find damaged plating or coating, replace the
____
 bolt(s).

 (e)  Lubricate the bolt threads, the shank, and the washer faces with grease before the installation of the bearing caps.
 CAUTION: INSTALL THE BEARINGS AND THE BEARING CAPS AS SETS.
_______ DO NOT APPLY MORE THAN THE MAXIMUM TORQUE. IT CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE BOLTS.
 (f)  Install the two bearing caps tightly and install the two bearing cap bolts, the washers and the nuts.
 NOTE: Use new nuts for the installation.
____
 (g)  Use the socket assembly to tighten the cap bolts 750 to 915 pound-feet (1016 to 1240 Nm) torque.
 NOTE: Push the bearing caps to the fitting for the bolts
____
 installation.

 (h)  
Use the solvent to clean the area around the bushing.

 (i)  
Apply the sealant to the beads around the flanges on the inboard and the outboard faces of the bushing halves.

 (j)  
Apply sealant around the circumference at the cap to the fitting joint, the bolt heads, the washer and the nut.

 (k)  Apply sealant around the seam between the trunnion support and the bearing caps.

 (2)  
Lift the nose of the airplane until you can remove the vertical support dolly (AMM 07-11-02/201).

 (3)  
Connect the retract actuator rod to the trunnion crank arm.

 (a)  
Install the washer on each side of the actuator lug.

 (b)  
Install the bolt, the washer and the nut.

 (c)  
Tighten the nut 50 to 80 pound-feet (68 to 108 Nm) and install the cotter pin.


 NOTE: If it is necessary, loosen the nut to align to the
____ nearest castellation with the cotter pin hole.
 (d)  
Remove plugs from the hydraulic hoses.

 (e)  
Connect the hydraulic hoses back to the retract actuator.

 WARNING: MAKE SURE YOU HOLD THE TRIPOD BEFORE YOU CONNECT THE DRAG
_______ STRUT. FAILURE TO DO THAT CAN CAUSE THE TRIPOD BRACES TO FALL WHEN YOU REMOVE THE APEX PIN. THIS WILL CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS.
 (4)  
Connect the drag strut to the tripod apex.

 (a)  
Install the thread protector on the tripod apex pin.

 (b)  
Remove the pin from the tripod apex.

 (c)  
Lift two caster jacks to move the gear to align the pin hole of the drag strut with the tripod braces.

 (d)  
Install the apex pin.

 (e)  
Remove the thread protector.

 (f)  
Install the washer and the nut and tighten the nut 90 to 100 pound-feet (122 to 136 Nm).


 NOTE: If it is necessary, loosen the nut to the nearest
