_______ THE INNER CYLINDER. IF THE BEARING FALLS, IT CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS OR DAMAGE TO MATERIALS.
 CAUTION: MAKE SURE THE INNER CYLINDER DOES NOT MOVE WHILE THE
_______ LOWER BEARING AND THE CAM ARE NOT CONFINED. USE VERY HIGH PRECAUTION TO PREVENT NICKS OR SCRATCHES TO THE INNER CYLINDER. THE NICKS OR SCRATCHES CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE BEARING SEALS.
 3) Lift the nose of the airplane. 4) Do that until you move the lower bearing from the outer cylinder sufficient for the seal replacement. 5) Prevent the bearing and the lower centering cam to fall from the outer cylinder.
 NOTE: The higher steering cam on the inner cylinder
____ push on the lower steering cam. This will push the lower bearing from the outer cylinder.
 CAUTION: DO NOT PUSH THE INNER CYLINDER INTO THE OUTER
_______ CYLINDER IF THE RESISTANCE OCCURS. THIS WILL CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE STRUT.
 6)  Lift the nose gear axle to approximately 8 inches.
 7)  Make sure you have sufficient space for the installation of the cam and the lower bearing. a) If the resistance occurs while you lift the inner
 cylinder into the outer cylinder, lower the inner cylinder.

 b)  Do the necessary steps again to get the lower bearing seals.
 NOTE:____ The compression ring in the restrictor assembly in the inner cylinder can move lightly. The ring is not in the center when you install the inner cylinder.
 (4)  S 028-010Remove the seals. (a) Remove the backup rings (7) and (11) from the grooves in the lower bearing (12).
 CAUTION:_______ WHEN YOU CUT THE SEAL, PUT A PROTECTION STRIP BETWEEN THE SEAL AND THE SURFACE OF INNER CYLINDER. THIS WILL PREVENT THE DAMAGE TO THE SURFACE OF THE INNER CYLINDER. THE NICKS OR SCRATCHES ON THE INNER CYLINDER CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE INNER CYLINDER. THEY WILL ALSO CAUSE DAMAGE TO SEALS WHILE THE SEALS MOVE THROUGH THE NICKS OR SCRATCHES.
 (b) (c)  Cut the seals (6) and (8) from around the inner cylinder.Use the plastic tool to prevent damage to the inner cylinder surface.
 (5)  S 118-011Clean all parts fully with hydraulic fluid specified on the shock strut nameplate.
 (6)  S 288-012Make sure that all backup rings (7 and 11) are serviceable. (a) Replaced the backup rings if they have nicked, scratched or damaged.
 NOTE:____ The recommended installation is to replace all the used backup rings with new backup rings. Use the used backup rings only after a full inspection and new rings are not available.
 (7)  S 428-013Install the seals. (a) Move the spare seal (3) from the lower bearing groove.

 CAUTION: USE ONLY THE TYPE OF HYDRAULIC FLUID SHOWN ON THE SHOCK
_______ STRUT NAMEPLATE. THE INCORRECT TYPE OF FLUID WILL CAUSE DAMAGE TO SEALS.
 CAUTION: SEALS MUST BE RESISTANT TO THE TYPE OF FLUID SHOWN ON THE
_______ SHOCK STRUT NAMEPLATE. THE INCORRECT TYPE OF FLUID CAN CAUSE SEAL DETERIORATION AND FLUID CONTAMINATION.
 (b)  
Apply a layer of hydraulic assembly lubricant on the seal (3).

 (c)  
Carefully extend the spare seals (3) and (4) up into their correct grooves.


 CAUTION: BE CAREFUL NOT TO EXTEND THE SEAL MORE THAN NECESSARY.
_______ IT CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SEAL OR INCREASE THE PROBLEM FOR THE INSTALLATION.
 (d)  Apply the hydraulic fluid on the backup rings. 1) Open the compression strap. 2) Put the strap around the inner cylinder. 3) Adjust the strap loosely around the seal with the seal and
 the strap on the top of the lower bearing. 4) Attach the latch on the hook but do not close the lever. 5) Assemble the seal guide ring on the inner cylinder (13)
 with the flange up. 6) Tighten the socket screws tightly with the allen wrench. 7) Make sure the three thumb screws are in its position
 (Fig. 802). 8) Move the guide ring down until the edge of the compression strap is against the shoulder of the thumb screws.
