WARNING:_______ DO NOT LOOSEN THE AIR VALVE BODY UNLESS YOU FULLY DEFLATED THE SHOCK STRUT. THE INTERNAL PRESSURE CAN BLOW THE VALVE OUT. THIS WILL CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS.
(b) Loosen the air valve nut two turns maximum.
NOTE:____ The fluid in the shock strut will release bubbles immediately when you decrease the pressure. Deflate the shock strut slowly to prevent a flow of fluid through the air valve.
(5) S 426-066Install the jack attached tool to the bottom of the axle.
(6) S 426-067Put the axle jack below the inner cylinder of the nose landing gear.
(7) S 416-068Lift the inner cylinder with the axle jack until the dimension X on the NLG servicing chart (AMM 12-15-05/301) is 4 |0.25 inches. (a) Make sure the nose gear tires are off the ground. (b) Adjust the fuselage jack and the axle jack if it is necessary.
(8) S 416-069Install the tow pin at the summing mechanism to move away the hydraulic pressure from the metering valve (AMM 09-11-00/201).
(9) S 416-070Install the torsional play tool.
NOTE:____ The torsional play tool has 4 parts. these parts. Figure 601, Sht 2 shows
(a) (b) (c) Install the lock assemblies (Parts 3 and 4) on the steering actuators.Install the dial indicator to read the axle nut motion.Install the torsional play tool into the jack attached tool. 1) Install the bare end of the reversible extension assembly (Part 2) into the jack attached tool. 2) Make the hole larger in the jack attached tool if it is necessary.
NOTE:____ The reversible extension assembly is installed 5.00 inches into the jack attached tool. This distance is the distance from the end of the extension assembly to the outer edge of the stop collar.
3) Install the small end of the lever arm (Part 1) into the free end of the reversible extension assembly.

(d) Install the push and pull gage at the BLUE location on the lever arm (Part 1).

Measure the play.
(a)
Apply a 50 |10 pound force in a left hand or right hand direction to the push and pull gage.
(b)
Set the dial indicator to zero.
(c)
Apply the same force in the opposite direction to the push and pull gage.
(d)
Write the reading from the dial indicator.
(e)
Release the loading force.

(6) Remove the door locks for the nose landing gear if no more work on the airplane is necessary (AMM 32-00-30/201).
