(h) (i) Tighten the nut 25 - 35 pound-feet and install the cotter pin.Install the lower drag strut at the tripod apex of the nose landing gear.
WARNING:_______ MAKE SURE THAT YOU HOLD THE TRIPOD BEFORE YOU REMOVE THE PIN (7). THE UPPER TRIPOD BRACE WEIGHS APPROXIMATELY 45 POUNDS. THE LOWER TRIPOD BRACE WEIGHS APPROXIMATELY 57 POUNDS. FAILURE TO HOLD THE TRIPOD WILL RESULT IN A POSSIBLE INJURY TO PERSONS OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(j) (k) (l) Remove the pin (7) and set the lower drag strut for installation.Install the thread protector of the pin (7).Install the pin (7) and the lube insert (8).
NOTE:____ Shake the nose gear tires to help to insert the pin (7).
(m) (n) (o) (p) (q) (r) Remove the thread protector.Install the washer and nut (6) on the pin (7).Tighten the nut 90 - 100 pound-feet.If it is necessary, loosen the nut to the nearest castellation to permit the installation of the lockbolt (5).Install the lockbolt (5) and tighten the nut 12 - 15 pound-inches.Remove the tripod support from the tripod assembly.
(3) S 434-029Connect the downlock release (9) to the crank fitting assembly (11) of the downlock and the actuator crank fitting (12).
(4) S 424-045Install the bolt assembly (10), the washers and the nuts.
(5) S 434-044Tighten the nut 75 - 110 pound-inches and install the cotter pin.
(6) S 434-030Connect the valve mechanism linkage to the upper drag strut.
(7) S 644-032Apply a grease on the surface of the bolt (1) and the washer.
(8) S 434-033Connect the lock actuator to the actuator crank fitting (12). (a) Install the bolt (1), the washer, and the nut. (b) Tighten the nut 85 - 120 pound-inches and install the cotter pin.
(9) S 644-034Apply a layer of grease to the bolt that connects the vertical link (3) to the crank fitting assembly (11) of the downlock.

Insert the bolt to connect the vertical link (3) to the fitting assembly (11) of the downlock crank.

Attach the bolt with the nut and cotter pin.

Lubricate the drag strut and all attach points at lube fittings with grease (AMM 12-21-01/301).

Connect the electrical wire to the primary (S397) and the alternate lock sensor (S424) of the nose landing gear (AMM 32-61-03/201).

Install the alternate extension drive unit (AMM 32-35-05/401) of the nose landing gear.

Do the nose landing gear and door extension and retraction operational test (AMM 32-34-00/501).

NOSE LANDING GEAR DRAG STRUT - INSPECTION/CHECK

1. General_______
A. This procedure contains a task to examine the attach points of the drag strut on the nose landing gear for worn parts. It will examine the bearings, the bushings and the mating surfaces at the following locations:
(1)
The downlock release shaft
(2)
The downlock release links
(3)
The vertical links
(4)
The lower tripod brace.
B.
To do this procedure, you must remove the drag strut on the nose landing gear.
