WARNING: DO NOT REMOVE THE VALVE BODY UNLESS DEFLATE THE SHOCK
_______ STRUT FULLY. THE AIR PRESSURE CAN BLOW THE VALVE BODY OUT AND CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS.
(a)
Remove the valve cap from the air valve at the top of the shock strut.
(b)
Remove the lockwire and loosen the outer nut two turns maximum.
NOTE: The hydraulic fluid will have bubbles immediately
____ while you decrease the pressure to the ambient. Deflate the shock strut slowly to prevent a leak of fluid through the air valve.
(c) Put the tray that can hold 10 gallons below the oil valve.

Remove the oil valve from the cylinder and drain the fluid
(AMM 32-21-02/301).

Lift the nose of the airplane until you fully extend the shock strut (AMM 07-11-02/201).

Procedure
S 038-027
(1) Remove the lower gland nut (9).
CAUTION:_______PREVENT THE TORSION LINK TO FALL. IT CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE MOUNTING BRACKET FOR THE SQUAT SWITCH.
(a) Remove the torsion link bolt to disconnect the higher and lower torsion links.
CAUTION: THE GLAND NUT CAN ACCIDENTALLY MOVE THE INNER CYLINDER
_______ DOWN WHEN YOU REMOVE IT FROM THE OUTER CYLINDER. PUT A PAD ON THE SHARP EDGE OF THE HOLE IN THE GLAND NUT. THIS WILL PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE INNER CYLINDER.
(b) Put a pad around the inner cylinder for the shock strut below the gland nut (9).

CAUTION: CLEAN THE HYDRAULIC FLUID FROM THE TIRES IMMEDIATELY IF
_______ THE FLUID ARE ON THE TIRES. THIS WILL PREVENT THE TIRE DETERIORATION.
(c)
Put the tray to catch the hydraulic fluid when remove the gland nut (9).
(d)
Remove the tab for the gland nut on the forward side of the outer cylinder for the nose landing gear (Fig. 802).
(e)
Use the wrench adapter to loosen the lower gland nut (9).
(f)
Move the gland nut (9) to the bottom of the inner cylinder (13).

WARNING: THE BEARING AND THE CAM CAN MOVE DOWN WHEN YOU REMOVE THE
_______ NUT FROM THE OUTER CYLINDER. THIS WILL CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE PARTS OR CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS.
(2) Move the scraper ring from the inner cylinder into the gland nut (9).

WARNING: HOLD THE TRIPOD BRACES BEFORE REMOVE THE APEX PIN OR THE
_______ TRIPOD. IF YOU DO NOT DO THAT, THE APEX PIN OR TRIPOD WILL COLLAPSE. THE HIGHER TRIPOD BRACE WEIGHS APPROXIMATELY 45 POUNDS. THE LOWER TRIPOD BRACE WEIGHS APPROXIMATELY 57 POUNDS. THIS WILL CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND CAUSE DAMAGE TO PARTS.
(3)
Hold the higher and the lower tripod braces.

Hold the drag strut and the tripod brace assembly and remove the tripod pin (AMM 32-21-01/401).

Move the drag strut and install the tripod top pin again (AMM 32-21-01/401).

Remove the inner cylinder (13).
(a)
Disconnect the actuator for the nose landing gear from the trunnion crank arm.
(b)
Install the sling set of the lower seal for the nose landing gear.

Slowly move the gear forward until you can remove the inner cylinder.
WARNING:_______HOLD THE INNER CYLINDER SUFFICIENTLY AND CAREFULLY. THIS WILL PREVENT INJURY TO PERSONS. ALL NICKS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE CHROME SURFACE.
