These optional split scraper rings permit the operators to activate the spare seals or replace a damaged scraper ring without the removal of the gear or disassembly of the gear. These scraper rings have a beveled scarf joint which opens the ring to install around the inner cylinder of the gear.

The use of these optional split scraper rings is not recommended for the gear overhaul. The split scraper ring is for temporary replacement only. When you disassemble the gear, you should use the production scraper ring.

(1)
Perform the two subsequent quick checks of the scraper ring on the landing gear:
(a)
Visually examine the chrome surface of the inner cylinder before you clean it.
NOTE: If you find vertical streaks of fluid or accumulated
____ debris on the chrome surface, it means that part of the scraper ring do not perform well.

(b) Use a mirror and a flashlight to examine the scraper ring.
NOTE: Put the mirror below the outer cylinder and against the
____ inner cylinder to examine the condition of the scraper ring.
(c) If one of the above checks finds a fault on the scraper ring, use the optional split scraper ring to replace the damaged scraper ring. 1) Release the pressure from the shock strut
(AMM 32-21-02/801). 2) Lower the gland nut. 3) Cut the damaged scraper ring from the inner cylinder.
NOTE: Do not scratch the surface of the inner cylinder.

4) Install the split scraper ring. 5) Tighten the gland nut 2100-2400 inch-pound torque (AMM 32-21-02/801).
(d)
Do this task: "Nose Landing Gear Shock Strut Servicing, (AMM 12-15-05/301".

Put the Airplane back to its Usual Condition.
