E. Install the Retractable/Steerable PDUs
S 844-100
(1) Prepare to install the PDU:
(a)
Inflate the drive-wheel tire to a pressure of 125-130 psig.
(b)
Remove the cover from the PDU wheel well in the floor (if it is installed).
(c)
Remove the unwanted materials from the PDU anti-rotation support fittings and the PDU wheel well.

CAUTION:_______BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU INSTALL THE PDU. THE PDU WEIGHS APPROXIMATELY 85 POUNDS. YOU WILL CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE ACTUATORS AND THE LIMIT SWITCHES IF YOU ARE NOT VERY CAREFUL.
(2) Connect the three electrical connector plugs (P1, P2, and P3) to the electrical receptacles on the support structure in the floor (WDM 25-57-23 and WDM 25-57-24).
NOTE:____The P1 connector plug is for the drive-wheel actuator. The P2 connector plug is for the limit switches. The P3 connector plug is for the steering actuator.

(3) Lower the PDU into the support fittings.
NOTE: The studs on the bottom of the torque-reaction fittings must
____ engage the correct number of slots in the anti-rotation fittings.

Turn the two lockbolts on each torque-reaction fitting until the slot in the lockbolts point laterally at the LOCK decal.

Move the PDU handles to the horizontal (folded) position.

Remove the DO-NOT-CLOSE tags and close these circuit breakers:

(7) Make sure you can manually disengage the drive-wheel from the drive-wheel actuator.
NOTE: A disengage control handle is adjacent to the drive-wheel
____ actuator on the bottom of the PDU. To get access to the handle you have to open the ceiling panel in the aft cargo compartment.
(a)
Pull the handle and turn it counterclockwise (45-degrees) until it locks.
(b)
Make sure the drive-wheel can turn freely in the forward and aft direction.
(c)
Turn the handle clockwise (45-degrees) until it releases and retracts to its initial position.
(d)
Make sure the drive-wheel can not turn in the forward and aft direction.

(8) Make sure the PDU wire bundles are clear of the structure and the PDU drain pan before you operate the PDU.

CAUTION: MAKE SURE THE PDU WIRE BUNDLES MOVE FREELY WHEN YOU OPERATE THE
_______ PDU. MAKE SURE THE PDU WIRE BUNDLES DO NOT RUB AGAINST THE STRUCTURE OR THE PDU DRAIN PAN. DAMAGE TO THE PDU WIRE BUNDLES CAN OCCUR.
(9) For PDU 17L, 17R, 18L, 18R, 19L1, 19L2, 19R1, and 19R2, make sure you can electrically operate the PDU from the master cargo control panel (M1):
NOTE: These steps will make sure there is electrical power supplied
____ to the PDU. Refer to 25-57-00/501 for a full operational test of the PDU.
