 C.  The tension on the inflation cable is not applied until the packboard is fully deployed and reached the point of connecting with the packboard retainer latch bayonet (hook) fitting attached to the airplane exterior, below the doorway. This ensures that no inflation of the slide chute begins until the packboard is securely retained, which ensures the slide chute will inflate and remain in alignment with the doorway in nominal wind forces.
 D.  If the automatic inflation triggering system fails, the manual inflation handle, connected to the inflation triggering mechanism, can be operated to perform the same function of applying a pull-load to the bottle firing lanyard. The manual inflation handle cannot be operated until the packboard is deployed.
 5.  Gas Supply Hoses (Fig. 1)
________________
 A.  The gas supply hoses as covered in this section consist of the hoses connected between the slide inflation stored gas bottle and the slide chute turbine pumps.
 B.  The hoses connected between the turbine pumps and the slide chute are covered in the Goodrich escape slide service manual.
 C.  Two escape slide deployment actuators are installed to provide the lifting force required to rotate the escape slide deployment chute towards the open doorway. One actuator is located on each side of the deployment chute, with the body connected to the base assembly and the piston shaft connected to an actuator arm attached to the slide deployment chute torque bar.
 D.  When pressurized gas is supplied to the actuator's through hoses connected to the gas source assembly, the actuator pistons are extended. Extension of the actuator piston's rotates the slide deployment chute torque bar and the chute is lifted and rotated to fall across the doorway threshold.

 6.  Base Assembly (Fig. 1)
_____________
 A.  The escape slide base assembly consists of a platform on which the deployment chute torque tube, supports, triggering mechanisms and release mechanisms are mounted.
 7.  Operation (Fig. 2)
_________
 A.  Functional Description
CAUTION: THE TRIGGER SAFETY PIN MUST BE REMOVED OR OPERATION DISCHARGE
_______
OF THE STORED GAS BOTTLE WILL BE PREVENTED.

 (1)
The following paragraphs describe manual deployment and automatic inflation of the escape slide. For operation, the escape slide assembly must be positioned immediately inboard of the entry doorway; the stored gas bottle trigger safety pin must be removed and the bottle firing lanyard connected in the triggering mechanism retainer. After removal of the trigger safety pin, the pin and attached caution tag must be stowed in the container provided on the bottle cradle support.

 (2)
Deployment of the escape slide chute pack is initiated by: manually grasping the chute handle and lifting the pack assembly until one or both hands may be placed on the lower inboard edge of the packboard and pushing the chute assembly through the open doorway.

 (3)
The escape slide pack cover ties are released in the beginning stage of the chute rotation by tension on the release lanyards.

 (4)
When the chute falls to rest on the doorway threshold the slide chute and packboard falls overboard, the packboard deploys until the lower edge catch mates with the packboard retainer latch bayonet (hook) fitting attached to the airplane exterior skin directly below the doorway.

 (5)
As escape slide chute continues to deploy, the stored gas bottle gas flow is triggered by tension load applied to the inflation cable connected between the inflation triggering mechanism cable and the top of the packboard, which transfers a pull-load to the bottle firing lanyard.

 (6)
If the automatic inflation triggering fails, the manual inflation handle must be pulled to apply a pull-load on the stored gas bottle firing lanyard.
