2. Do an Inspection/Check of the Cargo Restraint System (Fig. 601)____________________________________________________
A. Access

(1) Examine the cargo restraints for damage or defects.
(a) Remove the pallet locks and container stops from the cargo tracks, as follows:
NOTE: The pallet locks and container stops must be removed
____ to examine the tension studs and shear plunger studs installed on the underside. When damage is seen on other cargo restraints, they should be removed to examine the underside of the restraints and the structure. No removal instructions are given for these cargo restraints.
1) Remove the retainer and the fastener(s) which attach the pallet lock and container stop to the cargo track. 2) Move the shear plunger lever(s) to the up position to release the shear plunger stud(s) from the cargo track.

3) Move the pallet lock and container stop forward or aft until it can be lifted from the cargo track.
NOTE:____ The tension stud(s) installed on the underside must align with the circular cutouts in the cargo track.
(b) Examine the surface of the cargo restraints for corrosion, burrs, cracks, distortion, broken parts, or other damage.
NOTE:____ Repair or replace the cargo restraint if it is badly damaged.
(c) Examine the movable parts (levers, rollers, ect.) on the cargo restraints for ease of movement, and broken or weak springs.
NOTE:____ Make sure the cargo restraints operate as indicated in step (2). Repair or replace the cargo restraint if it is defective.
(d) Examine the cargo restraint fasteners for corrosion, burrs, cracks, distortion, damage, and attachment.
NOTE:____ Repair or replace the fasteners if they are badly damamged, or if they are loose and cannot be tightened.
(e) Examine the structure under the cargo restraints for corrosion at mating surfaces, cracks around the fastener holes, and other damage.
NOTE:____ Make sure the restraint is attached correctly to the structure. If corrosion or damage is found on or around the structure, remove the cargo restraint to examine the structure further. Replace the defective cargo restraints or repair the structure if it is necessary.
(f) Install the pallet locks and container stops to the cargo tracks, as follows: 1) Remove the retainer and fastener(s) from the pallet lock and container stop, if installed. 2) Move the shear plunger lever(s) to the up position.

3) Make sure the arrow on the pallet lock points in the same direction as the arrow on the cargo floor. 4) Align and engage the tension studs with the circular cutouts in the cargo track. 5) Move the pallet lock and container stop forward or aft along the cargo track to the necessary position.
6) Move the shear plunger lever(s) down to engage the shear plunger stud(s) with the circular cutout in the cargo track.
NOTE: It may be necessary to move the pallet lock and
____ container stop forward or aft to engage the shear plunger stud with the circular cutout.
7) Install the retainer and fastener(s) to attach the pallet lock and container stop to the cargo track.
