MAINTENANCE MANUAL
9. Container Stops
_______________
A. Retractable container stops are provided for use when carrying mixed loads of containers and pallets in either containerized cargo compartment. The stops can be stowed in specified locations and must remain retracted when not in use. Quick-release attachment fittings secure the stops to the cargo tracks at any required location when in use.
10. Pallet Locks
____________
A. Manually retractable pallet locks are provided for use when carrying pallets in either containerized cargo compartment. The locks can be positioned at marked locations and must remain retracted when not in use. Retractable locking heads provide longitudinal restraint, vertical restraint and longitudinal separation of the pallets and adjacent containers. Quick-release attachment fittings secure the locks to the cargo tracks. The locks are installed at marked locations to achieve the container/pallet option configuration.
B. Make sure the arrow on the pallet lock points in the same direction as the arrow on the cargo floor.
11. Operation
_________
A. Functional Description
(1)
The containerized cargo restraining system provides the guides and restraining devices used to load, transport or unload cargo. Positioning of the restraining devices, either retracted or extended is dictated by the type of cargo package to be handled.
(2)
When the system is configured for half-width containers the splitter rails and the center guides on the airplane centerline are extended. The retractable doorway center guides are retracted and the semiautomatic retractable doorsill restraints have the vertical restraint retracted and the stop guide erected. The handling system moves each container laterally into the doorway until the container contacts the side guides opposite the doorway, then longitudinally. As the containers move longitudinally into the compartment, the splitter rail separates them for alignment with the extended center guides and the side guides. The center and side guides control lateral movement of the containers during longitudinal travel until contact is made with the fixed end stops or a previously loaded container. When the left half of the doorway has been loaded, the doorway center guides are extended. The right half is then loaded and the doorsill vertical restraints are extended.
B. Control
(1) General
(a) Doorsill restraints, center guides, splitter rails, side guides, pallet locks and container stops must be extended or retracted as required for the various types of cargo handling operations. All of the guides are manually operated.
