 EMERGENCY DESCENT DEVICES - INSPECTION/CHECK
____________________________________________
 1.  General_______
 A.  This procedure contains one task:
 (1)  An inspection of the emergency descent device.
 B.  The aircraft container latch in the stowage compartment prevents each descent device from being released until the handle is extracted from it. Once the handle is extracted, the tube, telescoped within the grip, extends and locks. This makes the handle a full 8.5 inches long, which provides room for a two-handed grip. Each end of the handle is attached by a flexible metal strap shaped to fit the descent device contour. The straps stow within the case of the device until the handle is pulled out. This force releases the descent device from the aircraft container latch.
