MAINTENANCE MANUAL

 C.  The auxiliary cargo control panel controls the loading and unloading of the standard three pallets configuration (P1A, P2A, P2B) in the nose section from the nose cargo door or the side cargo door.
 D.  The side door cargo control panel controls the loading and unloading of the pallets from the side cargo door and is connected with the master cargo control panel.
 E.  The remote cargo control panel controls the loading and unloading of the pallets from the sidewall panel that is opposite the side cargo door.
 F.  The local cargo control panels are controlled by the cargo controller. One panel each is on the right sidewall adjacent to PDU 3 and 5 and one on the right and left sidewall aft thereof, adjacent to each power drive unit.
 G.  The 20 FT cargo control panel operates when the 20 FT CONTROL switch on the side cargo door control panel is in ON position. The panel controls the 20 FT container to move in the transverse directions.
 H.  The 20 FT local cargo control panels are controlled by the cargo controller to load and unload the 20 FT container. The panel controls the cargo unit to move in the longitudinal direction.
 9.  Operation
_________
 A.  Functional Description
 (1)
General

 (a)
The main deck cargo drive system may be used to handle containers or pallets. To set up the cargo system when changing from one type of cargo unit to another, it is necessary to manipulate the appropriate guides and restraints (Ref 25-58-00/001, Main Deck Cargo Restraining System). The system controls operate on 28-volt dc power; the power drive unit motors on 115/200-volt, 400-Hz, 3-phase power. All power for the system is supplied from the main deck cargo handling bus located in the P415 right main power distribution center panel.

 (b)
PDU control and power circuit breakers are along the lower sidewall on each side of the compartment on the P34, P128, P129, P130, P133, P134, and P135.

 (2)
Cargo Handling

 (a)  The system is prepared for operation by stationing a two-man crew on board the airplane to operate the controls. Normally, the crew has a loadmaster and a cargo loader. The loadmaster is stationed at the master cargo control and/or remote control. The cargo loader operates in conjunction with the loadmaster at any one of the local cargo controls within the selected zone.

 (b)
The personnel safety net installed across the side cargo door is removed and stowed. The side cargo door is fully opened and external loading equipment is positioned in alignment with the side door sill roller/caster and guide assembly.

 (c)
Cargo control logic modules incorporating time delay relays stagger the starting times of power drive units at intervals from zone to zone throughout the compartment. This time delay allows power demand in the activated zone to drop from a surge to an operating power level before additional demand is imposed. The delay also increases spacing between cargo units in transit each time the cargo drive system is stopped and restarted. The time delay relays do not operate when PDUs are controlled from any local drive switch.

 B. Control
 (1)  Prepare to Operate System
 (a)
Provide electrical power (AMM 24-22-00/201).

 (b)
Open the nose cargo door (AMM 52-31-00/201).

 (c)
Make sure the E/E bay access panel is closed and latched.

 (d)
Make sure the crew ladder is in the main deck ceiling (AMM 25-50-01/401).

WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT PERSONS AND EQUIPMENT ARE AWAY FROM THE
_______ DOOR AND THE DOOR OPENING WHEN YOU OPERATE THE DOOR. FAILURE OF THE LIFT MECHANISM COULD CAUSE THE DOOR TO CLOSE QUICKLY WHICH COULD CAUSE INJURY OR DAMAGE.
 (e)  Open side cargo door (Ref 52-32-00/001) and install side cargo door safety strut (optional) (Ref 52-32-16/401).
WARNING: A PERSONNEL SAFETY NET MUST BE INSTALLED ACROSS SIDE CARGO
_______ DOOR OPENING AT ALL TIMES, UNLESS AN APPROVED ACCESS STAND OR PLATFORM IS POSITIONED AT THE DOOR OPENING. ADEQUATE PRECAUTIONS ARE NECESSARY TO PREVENT FALLS. MAIN DECK COMPARTMENT IS 16 FEET ABOVE THE GROUND.
