NOTE: This emergency equipment can be removed from the airplane.

Make sure that the emergency equipment is clearly identified and is in the correct location in the airplane.

Make sure you can remove it easily, and that the fittings are not damaged.

EMERGENCY ESCAPE STRAPS AND DESCENT DEVICES -

1. General_______
A. Equipment covered in this section includes emergency evacuation escape descent devices for emergency escape from the flight compartment.
2. Escape Descent Devices (Fig. 1)______________________
A. Crew escape descent devices are stowed adjacent to the flight compartment overhead escape hatch above first observer's console. These devices are provided for flight crew emergency descent when conditions do not permit use of the floor-mounted escape slides at upper deck passenger cabin entry doors. The descent devices are housed in a divisioned stowage holder adjacent to the escape hatch.
B. The descent devices consist of a case housing, a centrifugal brake mechanism, a telescopic handgrip, and the descent line. The descent line is comprised of approximately 46 feet of stainless steel tape connected to the brake mechanism and a 48-inch length of 1/8-inch steel cable connected to a restraint bracket secured to the ceiling structure.
C. The descent device is used by removing the device from the holder and departing through the overhead escape hatch while maintaining a firm grasp on the device handgrip. Centrifugally operated brake shoes limit speed of descent. Enough slack is provided in the cable to allow crew to exit without resistance.
