 7.  Outboard Guide/Restraint Rails (Fig. 1)

 A.  The outboard edges of the main deck cargo compartment is established by a series of guide/restraint rails. Each rail consists of retractable side lock restraints, swiveling vertical restraints and cargo tiedown fittings. Side lock restraints are extended and retracted by lowering and raising the side lock release handles outboard of the rail. Adjacent guide/restraint rails are linked together with retractable coupling plungers and fittings at each end of the rails. The rails attach to rail supports which are secured to the seat tracks and floor fittings. Each rail support contains a retaining pin and release handle for attachment to guide/restraint rails. Removal of guide/restraint rail from rail supports is accomplished by rotating release handle to vertical position and withdrawing handle outboard to disengage retaining pin from rail. Some rail supports contain a roller which serves as part of the conveyor system or a leaf spring to absorb the impact of cargo units.
