MAINTENANCE MANUAL
10. Side Door Sill Roller/Caster and Guide Assembly (Fig. 1)
_______________________________________________
A. A sill assembly spans the opening of the side door cargo transfer area on the left side of the cargo compartment to facilitate the transferring of cargo units into and out of the airplane. The sill assembly consists of a forward and aft sill containing casters, rollers and retractable side guides. The outboard section of each sill folds onto the inboard section of each sill to the stowed position. Retractable side guides when extended provide guidance for cargo units transferring into and out of the cargo compartment and must be retracted prior to stowing the outboard sill sections.
11. Retractable Center Guide/Restraints (Fig. 1)
___________________________________
A. Retractable center guide/restraints are installed along the centerline of the cargo compartment to provide guidance and restraint of 88 and/or 96-inch wide cargo units. Each center guide/restraint contains casters or rollers (except in side door cargo transfer area) which serve as part of the conveyor system, two pushdown guide/restraints for restraining 88-inch wide cargo units , and one retractable center guide/restraint for restraining 96-inch wide cargo units. The pushdown and center guide/ restraints contain vertically mounted rollers for guiding cargo units and swiveling vertical restraints which are spring centered to pivot automatically out of the way when contacted by interferring cargo units.
12. Retractable Centerline Bumper (Fig. 1)
_____________________________
A. A retractable centerline bumper is to give protection for the retractable center guide/restraints installed aft of the bumper. The centerline bumper is shock-absorber mounted and is retracted during handling of 96x238.5-inch long (20 foot) cargo units. Retraction of the bumper is accomplished by operation of the latch release lever located on top of the bumper.
13. Lock/Stop Roller-Caster Trays (Fig. 1)
_____________________________
A. Three rows of lock/stop roller-caster trays are installed along the entire length of the cargo compartment on each side of the airplane centerline. Locks and stops are intermittently spaced throughout the length of the trays to provide longitudinal and vertical restraint for the cargo units. Three locks and/or stops restrain the forward and aft ends of each cargo unit and may be relocated in 1-inch increments throughout the tray length for differing lengths of cargo units. Rollers and casters serve as part of the conveyor system and may be relocated in 1-inch increments throughout the length of the tray.
