The escape slide turbine pumps are driven by the stored gas bottle gas flow and induce ambient air into the escape slide. The induction of ambient air occurs in two pumping stages: the first stage for high volume induction at low pressure, the second stage at lower volume induction against the increasing back pressure of the air and gas in the escape slide. As the pressure of the stored gas bottle decays, check valves close to maintain slide pressure. Inflation of the escape slide is completed approximately 5 seconds after stored gas bottle gas flow release.

The slide does not deploy completely to reach the ground, until inflation has built up enough pressure to apply sufficient tension on the slide retaining straps. This ensures the slide will be rigid enough to oppose nominal wind forces and keep the slide deployed to align with the doorway.

The slide girt is retained at the doorway by a girt bar inserted in the girt fold and locked in the chute channel.

As the chute rotates to rest on the doorway threshold a ramp plate is raised from the base assembly platform to align with the inboard edge of the chute and provide a level walkway to the door opening.
