E. Engine Idle Control System Test (Without Engine Operation)

(1) Do these steps to prepare for the test of the engine idle control:
(a)
Make sure the forward thrust levers are in the idle stop position.
(b)
Make sure the two start levers are in the CUTOFF position.
(c)
Make sure these circuit breakers are closed:
1) P6 Main Power Distribution Panel
a) ENGINE IDLE CONTROL
b) MD&T

(2) Do these steps to do the system test of the engine idle control
without engine operation:
(a)
Put the forward thrust levers for the two engines in the fully forward position.
(b)
Push and hold the AIR SENSING relay push button.
1) You can find the shelf on the right side of the radar bay and forward of the nose wheel well.
(c)
Make sure the LOW IDLE light does not come on.
(d)
Move the forward thrust lever for the No. 1 engine to the idle stop position. 1) Make sure the LOW IDLE light comes on.

Move the forward thrust lever for the No. 1 engine to the full forward position. 1) Make sure the LOW IDLE light goes out.
(f)
Move the forward thrust lever for the No. 2 engine to the idle stop. 1) Make sure the LOW IDLE light comes on.
(g)
Push and hold the switch for the GROUND SENSING relay. 1) Make sure the LOW IDLE light goes out.
(h)
Release the switch on the GROUND SENSING relay. 1) Make sure the LOW IDLE light comes on.
NOTE: The light comes on after 4 seconds.

(i)
Move the forward thrust lever for the No. 2 engine to the full forward position. 1) Make sure the LOW IDLE light goes out.
(j)
Open the fan cowl panels (AMM 71-11-02/201).
(k)
Remove the electrical power.
(l)
Disconnect the electrical connector D546 from the N1 sensors.
(m)
Connect the applicable cable from the test box to the mating receptacle on the N1 sensors.
(n)
Connect the function generators to the mating receptacles on the test box.
(o)
Close this left (right) circuit breaker:
1) P6 Main Power Distribution Panel
a) N1 TACH IND
(p)
Make sure the signal generators are connected to the N1 speed sensors.
(q)
Put the start lever for the No. 1 engine in the IDLE position. 1) Make sure the LOW IDLE light comes on.
(r)
Slowly increase the voltage on the function generator to increase the N1 indication for the No. 1 engine to 35|5% N1. 1) Make sure the LOW IDLE light goes out at or before 27%.
(s)
Put the start lever for the No. 2 engine in the IDLE position. 1) Make sure the LOW IDLE light comes on.
(t)
Slowly increase the voltage on the function generator to increase the N1 indication for the No. 2 engine to 35|5% N1. 1) Make sure the LOW IDLE light goes out at or before 27%.
(u)
Put the start lever for the No. 2 engine in the CUTOFF position.
(v)
Slowly decrease the N1 indication for the No. 1 engine to 15|5% N1. 1) Make sure the LOW IDLE light comes on at or before 24% N1.
