 (5)  ENGINES POST-CFMI-SB 73-125 AND PRE-CFMI-SB 73-A129; (CONFIGURATION 3); Do an inspection of the fuel filter parts assembly.
 (a)  Inspect the bolts (200), self aligning nuts (220), washer (230) and self aligning washers (210) for evidence of nicks or dents damage to the threads or spherical face. If present, discard the part.

 (6)  ENGINES POST-CFMI-SB 73-125 AND POST-CFMI-SB 73-A129; (CONFIGURATION FOUR); Do an inspection of the fuel filter parts assembly.
 (a)  
Examine the bolt for evidence of damage, such as nicked,
 dented, or damaged threads.
 1) If you find damage, discard the bolt.


 (b)  
Examine the washer for evidence of damage.
 1) If you find damage, discard the washer.


 (c)  
Examine the main fuel pump housing insert for evidence of
 damage, such as a pulled-out insert, insert movement, or
 damaged insert threads.

 

 NOTE:____This configuration has only one insert. It is located adjacent to the nameplate on the main fuel pump housing.
 NOTE: The original depth of the helicoil insert when
____ installed is from 0.010 inch (0.25 mm) to 0.054 inch
 (1.37 mm), or a quarter to one-and-a-half thread pitch below the parting surface of the fuel pump housing.
 1)  If you find damage to the insert, replace the main fuel pump (AMM 73-11-01/401).
 (d)  
Examine the D-head bolt threads for evidence of damage, such as as nicked, dented, or damaged threads. 1) If you find damage to the D-head bolt threads, refer to AMM

 73-11-02/801 for the repair procedure.

 (e)  
Examine the nuts for evidence of damage, such as nicked,
 dented, or damaged threads.
 1) If you find damage to the nut, discard the nut.

(f)  Examine the flat washers for evidence of damage. 1) If you find damage to the flat washer, discard the flat washer.
 (7)  S 866-010-C00Install the fuel filter (AMM 73-11-02/401).
 (8)  S 426-009-C00Close the left fan cowl panel (AMM 71-11-02/201).

FUEL FILTER CARTRIDGE - APPROVED REPAIRS

 1. General
_______
 A. This procedure has two tasks:
 (1)  
The first task is the removal of the helicoil inserts.

 (a)  This procedure is applied if a helicoil insert is found to be loose, pulled out or damaged. In case of even one (1) helicoil insert damage, all six (6) helicoil inserts must be unscrewed from the gear housing main fuel pump and the main fuel pump fuel filter cover must be attached with either the configuration 2 or 3 (AMM 73-11-02/401).

 (2)  
For engines Post-CFMI-SB 73-A129 only, the second task is the replacement of defective D-bolts on the main fuel filter housing.

 2. Removal of Helicoil Inserts

 A. Procedure

 CAUTION: THE MAIN FUEL PUMP MODELS 708300-1 AND 708300-2 CANNOT ACCEPT
_______ THIS APPROVED REPAIR AND MUST BE REPAIRED THROUGH THE SHOP.
 (1)  
Remove the fuel filter cover (AMM 73-11-02/401).

 (2)
Remove the inserts from the main fuel pump housing (Fig. 801).

 (a)  
Manufacture a tool for extracting insert (Fig. 803).

 (b)  
Engage the locally manufactured tool to the hole until it contacts the helicoil insert.
