Make sure that there are protective caps installed on all the open ports of the MEC that you removed.

 If it is necessary, do the steps that follow to install the MEC on the fuel pump:

 (a)  
Remove the coverplate from the forward face of the MEC.

 (b)  
Examine the sleeve splines in the MEC for damage.
 1) Lubricate the sleeve splines with engine oil.


 (c)  
Examine the drive shaft splines of the fuel pump drive for
 damage.
 1) Lubricate the shaft splines with engine oil.


 (d)  
Examine the mating surfaces of the MEC and the fuel pump for
 damage.


 (e)  
Apply a thin layer of engine oil on the seal gasket.

 (f)  
Install the seal gasket on the rear face of the fuel pump.

 NOTE:____You can use the seal gasket again. Examine the seal gasket for damage of the sealing surface. Replace the seal gasket if it is damaged.

 (g)  
Apply a thin layer of graphite grease on the MEC mounting
 studs.


 (h)  
Remove the five bolts that attach the cover to the pad of the core rotation drive (on the forward side of the AGB and above the starter).

 (i)  
Remove the cover.

 


 NOTE: Use a 3/4-inch drive to turn the drive pad.

CAUTION: DO NOT USE THE DRIVE SHAFT OF THE FUEL PUMP TO HOLD THE
_______
 WEIGHT OF THE MEC WHEN YOU INSTALL THE MEC. THIS WILL
 PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE SPLINES.

 (j)  
Carefully align the MEC on the rear face of the fuel pump.

 (k)  
Install the MEC on the rear face of the fuel pump.

 (l)  
Move the MEC from the left side, then move it rearwards, and
 then move it forward.


 (m)  
Turn the drive shaft to the fuel pump to align the splines on the fuel pump with the splines on the MEC.

 (n)  
Do not try to turn the drive shaft on the pump directly.

 (o)  
Attach the MEC to the fuel pump with the six washers and the six self-locking nuts. 1) Use the nut installation tool, 856A1469G02 or 856A1303G01,

 to install the nuts that are difficult to reach.

 (p)  
Use the sequence below and tighten the nuts to
 55-65 pound-inches (6-7 Newton meters).
 1) Use the torque adapter set, 856A1336G02 to torque the

 

 bolts.
 MEC NUT TIGHTENING__________________ APPROXIMATE LOCATION
 SEQUENCE________ LOOKING FORWARD

 First 12 O'clock
 Second 3 O'clock
 Third 7 O'clock

 Fourth 2 O'clock
 Fifth 6 O'clock
 Sixth 10 O'clock

 (q)  
Tighten the nuts, with the sequence above, again.

 (r)  
Tighten the nuts to 100-130 pound-inches
 (11-15 Newton meters).
 1) Use the torque adapter set, 856A1336G02, to torque the


 nuts.

 (s)  
Install the cover on the core rotation drive pad with the five bolts.

 (t)  
Tighten the bolts to 55-70 pound-inches (6-8 Newton meters).

 (u)  
Install the lockwire.

 (11) Use a 1-1/2 inch wrench.
 (a)  Tighten the inlet line fitting to the fuel supply at the strut disconnect panel to 112-128 pound-feet (1340-1536 pound-inches) (151.4-173.8 Newton meters).
