Install the main oil/fuel heat exchanger on the fuel pump with the six washers and nuts. 1) Tighten the nuts to 120-140 pound-inches
(13.6-15.8 Newton meters).

(2) If it is necessary, do the steps that follow to install the servo fuel heater on the main oil/fuel heat exchanger:
(a) Make sure that the mating surfaces are clean and are not damaged. 1) If it is necessary, clean the surfaces with MEK and wipe it
dry.

WARNING:_______DO NOT LET ENGINE OIL STAY ON YOUR SKIN. USE ENGINE OIL IN AREA WITH GOOD VENTILATION. ENGINE OIL IS POISONOUS AND CAN BE ABSORBED THROUGH YOUR SKIN. ENGINE OIL FUMES CAN IRRITATE YOUR RESPIRATORY TRACT.
(b)
Apply a thin layer of engine oil on the seal gasket.
(c)
Install the seal gasket on the mounting surface of the main oil/fuel heat exchanger.
NOTE:____You can use the seal gasket again. Examine the seal gasket for damage to the mating surface. Replace the seal gasket if it is damaged.
(d)
Apply a thin layer of graphite grease on the mounting studs.
(e)
Install the servo fuel heater on the main oil/fuel heat exchanger with the six washers and nuts. 1) Tighten the nuts to 95-105 pound-inches
(10.7-11.9 Newton meters).

Remove the blanking plate from the DISCHARGE port, on the MEC to be installed.

Install the blanking plate on the MEC that you removed.
(a)
Tighten the bolts to 55-65 pound-inches (6-7 Newton meters).
(b)
Make sure that there are protective caps installed on all the open ports of the MEC that you removed.

(5) If it is necessary, do the steps that follow to install the MEC on the fuel pump:
NOTE: Main Engine Contols (MEC's) that have fluorocarbon
____ (Viton) external seals (Post CFMI SB 73-084) can leak fuel for a short time when they are below -29.2 degrees Farenheit (-34 Celsius) (Modification 1) or below -40 Farenheit (-40 Celsius) (Modification 2). Refer to AMM 71-00-00/501 for the leakage limits.
(a)
Remove the coverplate from the forward face of the MEC.
(b)
Examine the sleeve splines in the MEC for damage.
1) Lubricate the sleeve splines with engine oil.
(c)
Examine the drive shaft splines to the fuel pump for damage. 1) Lubricate the shaft splines with engine oil.
(d)
Examine the mating surfaces of the MEC and the fuel pump for damage.

CAUTION: DO NOT LET THE WEIGHT OF THE MEC BE HELD BY THE DRIVE
_______ SHAFT ON THE FUEL PUMP WHEN YOU INSTALL THE MEC. THIS WILL PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE SPLINES.
