Do this test of the engage signals from the yaw damper:
(a)
Set the portable tester to SUBFRAME 0, WORD 3.
(b)
Engage the YAW DAMPER switch on the P5-3 panel.
(c)
Make sure the BIT 1 light on the portable tester is on.
(d)
Disengage the YAW DAMPER switch.
(e)
Make sure the BIT 1 light on the portable tester goes out.

UNDERWATER LOCATOR BEACON - MAINTENANCE PRACTICES

1. General_______
A. This procedure has these tasks:
(1)
A removal of the underwater locator beacon (ULB).
(2)
A replacement of the ULB battery.
(3)
An operational test of the ULB.
(4)
An installation of the ULB.
B. For these tasks it is necessary to open the aft lower ceiling panel No. 2. The ULB is on the front of the flight data recorder. The flight data recorder is above the ceiling panels at station 947.

2. Underwater Locator Beacon Removal (Fig. 201)_________________________________
A. General
(1) The ULB has a battery as the power source. The ULB has no electrical connections.

Open the aft lower ceiling panel No. 2 (AMM 25-21-71/401).

Do these steps to remove the underwater locator beacon (ULB) from the AlliedSignal flight data recorder:
(a)
Loosen the four screws that hold the ULB.
(b)
Remove the two screws and the clamp from one end of the ULB.
(c)
Remove the ULB.
(d)
Keep the two screws and the clamp.

A. General
(1) Do not replace the battery in the DK100 underwater locator beacon (ULB). On or before the expired date, send the DK100 to the manufacturer for servicing.
