 A.  Parameter Inputs
 (1)  
The flight data recorder receives inputs from sensors and signals from other airplane systems. The inputs are grouped as analog and discrete, and are listed as follows:

Analog Inputs


 (a)  Accelerometer 1) The accelerometer provides the vertical acceleration signals to the flight data recorder.
 2)  On airplanes with single-axis accelerometer, vertical acceleration signals are provided to the flight data recorder. On airplanes with 3-axis accelerometer, vertical, lateral and longitudinal acceleration signals are provided to the FDAU.
 3)  The accelerometer receives 26-volt ac power from the flight data recorder.
 (b)  Synchro Input Sources 1) Altitude and airspeed signals from the air data computer. 2) Heading and reference signals from the IRS provided through
 the digital analog adapter (DAA).
 (3)  Discrete Inputs
 (a)  Ground keying signals are received from each VHF communication transceiver.

 FLIGHT DATA RECORDER SYSTEM - TROUBLE SHOOTING

 1.  General_______
 A.  These trouble-shooting procedures are based the system operational test. The structure of the procedures will help to isolate faults quickly.
 B.  When a test step does not check out, find the box containing the trouble symptom and perform the stated action. Continue to follow a single line by analyzing the results of each test step until the required corrective action is determined. Perform the specified corrective action, then repeat the step at which the failure was encountered and complete the test to check out the system.
 C.  All trouble shooting procedures are based on the assumption that wiring is OK and that electrical power is available. If the corrective action in the procedure does not correct the problem, check wiring using the wiring diagram.
 D.  The flight data recorder uses data from other systems in the airplane. A failure in one of these other systems can look like a failure in the flight data recorder. Make sure you do the operational test of the other systems before you replace the flight data recorder.
 E.  The flight data recorder uses data from an accelerometer. If there is an apparent failure in the accelerometer, replace the flight data recorder first or replace both the flight data recorder and the accelerometer at the same time. You cannot tell if a failure is in the accelerometer or in the flight data recorder without an accelerometer simulator.
 WARNING: TO AVOID INJURY TO PERSONNEL, STAY CLEAR OF LEADING EDGE
_______ SLATS, WHICH CAN MOVE AUTOMATICALLY (UNLESS OTHERWISE INHIBITED) DURING MAINTENANCE WHEN EITHER HYDRAULIC SYSTEM IS PRESSURIZED, AND TRAILING EDGE FLAPS ARE IN POSITION 1, 2, OR 5, AND NOSE OR MAIN LANDING GEAR AIR/GROUND RELAYS SENSE AN AIRBORNE CONDITION.
 F.  If AIR/GND relay (R277) is to be replaced, open AIR/GND RELAY & LIGHTS circuit breaker on P6-2 circuit breaker panel, to remove power from the relay coil. Removing power from relay coil places the relay in airborne condition.
