 1.  General
_______
 A.  The engine instrument system (EIS) primary display unit has a feature to monitor the engines for exceedance and abnormal start conditions. Any engine exceedance or any N1, N2 or EGT, beyond the red-line limit, will be stored in non-volatile RAM. This data is recorded at one-second intervals and also includes the fuel flow rate and the air/ground condition at the time of the recording.
 B.  This procedure provides the steps for the retrieval and erasure of engine exceedance data from the EIS primary display unit. This procedure can be performed only when the airplane is on the ground and the engines are not running.
 C.  This subject has two procedures, primary and optional. In the primary procedure, the interface between the ARINC reader and the EIS test connector is provided by the EIS Data Retrieval Test Box. In the optional procedure, you will have to provide the interface between the ARINC reader and the EIS test connector.

 2.  Retrieve and Erase Engine Exceedance Data with the Data Bus Analyzer

Make sure these EIS circuit breakers are closed:

 (a)  P6-2 Load Control Center - Right
 1) EIS PRIMARY 1
 2) EIS PRIMARY 2
 3) EIS PRIMARY 3
 4) EIS PRIMARY 4


 (2)
Supply electrical power, if it is necessary (AMM 24-22-00/201).

 (3)
Remove the protective cover from the EIS test connector (D10146).

 D. Retrieve Engine Exceedances

 (1) Push the INTERROGATE switch on the EIS Data Retrieval Test Box.
 NOTE: Approximately 20 seconds after the INTERROGATE discrete is
____ applied, the data is available at the ARINC reader. The output format of all exceedance/abnormal start condition data is given in Table A.
 E. Erase Engine Exceedances

 CAUTION: YOU MUST RETRIEVE THE EXCEEDANCE DATA FIRST BEFORE YOU CLEAR

 THE EXCEEDANCE DATA.

 (1) Push the ERASE switch on the EIS Data Retrieval Test Box.
 NOTE: This will reset the exceedance memory in the EIS Primary

 Display to zero.

 F. Put The Airplane To Its Usual Condition

Remove the ARINC 429 bus reader from the data retrieval test box.
