Do a test of the time necessary to move the spoilers:

 (a)  
Quickly move the speed brake lever from the DOWN position to the UP position. 1) Make sure all of the spoilers move to the up position in

 less than 1 second.

 (b)  
Quickly move the speed brake lever from the UP position to the DOWN position. 1) Make sure all of the spoilers move to the retracted


 position in less than 1 second.

 (3)  
Do a test of the friction in the speed brake lever:

 (a)  
Install the spring scale on the end of the speed brake lever.

 (b)  
Use the spring scale to measure the force necessary to move the speed brake lever.

 (c)  
Make sure the forces necessary to move the speed brake lever are less than these limits: 1) From the DOWN, to the FLIGHT DETENT position - 20 pounds. 2) From the FLIGHT DETENT, to the UP position - 28 pounds. 3) From the UP, to the FLIGHT DETENT position - 28 pounds. 4) From the FLIGHT DETENT, to the DOWN position - 20 pounds.

 (4)  
Do a check of the spring force at the speedbrake handle:

 (a)  
Make sure that the speedbrake lever is not in the down and locked position by manually moving the lever.

 (b)  
Install the spring scale on the end of the speedbrake lever.

 (c)  
Use the spring scale to measure the force necessary to move the speedbrake handle approximately along the lever's centerline.

 (d)  
Make sure that the force necessary to pull up the speedbrake handle along the lever's centerline is: 1) More than 2.0 pounds and less than 3.4 pounds.

 (5)  Do a test of the indicator circuits for the speed brake lever actuator:
 NOTE: During this test you will use the Antiskid System Control
____ Unit installed on the E3-2 shelf in the electrical compartment. The control unit gives wheel speed signals to the automatic speed brake system.
 The weight of the airplane must be on the landing gear or the right main landing gear must be compressed a minimum of five inches during this test.
 (a)  Make sure these circuit breakers are open:
 1)  P6-2 Panel a) AUTOSLAT NO. 1 DC b) AUTOSLAT NO. 2 DC c) AIRPLANES WITH THE AUTOSLAT COMPUTER;
 AUTOSLAT NO. 1 AC
 AUTOSLAT NO. 2 AC

 (b)  
Make sure the parking brake is released.

 (c)  
Make sure the speed brake lever is in the DOWN position.

 (d)  
AIRPLANES WITH SPEED BRAKE TEST SWITCHES;
 Do a test of the SPEED BRAKE TEST switches:


 (e)  
Push the SPEED BRAKE TEST switch 3 to retract the speed brake lever actuator.

 (f)  
Move the speed brake lever from the DOWN to the ARMED detent.

 (g)  
Make sure the SPEED BRAKE ARMED light on the center panel is on.

 (h)  
Push the SPEED BRAKE TEST switch 1 to actuate the speed brake indicator test. 1) Make sure the SPEED BRAKE ARMED light is not on. 2) Make sure the SPEED BRAKE DO NOT ARM light is on.

 (i)  
Operate the speed brake indicator test again with the SPEED BRAKE TEST switches 2 and 3.


 NOTE: The takeoff warning horn can operate if the speed brake
____ is armed when you move the thrust levers forward.
 (j)
Move the LIGHTS switch on the P2-1 panel to the DIM position.

 1)  Make sure the intensity of the SPEED BRAKE ARMED light decreases.

 (k)  
Move the LIGHTS switch to the BRT position.

 1)  Make sure the intensity of the SPEED BRAKE ARMED light goes back to the initial level.

 (l)  
AIRPLANES WITHOUT SPEED BRAKE TEST SWITCHES; Move one of the thrust levers forward to retract the speed brake lever actuator. Move the thrust lever back to the idle position.
