Prepare for the Adjustment

 (1)  
Supply the electrical power (Ref 24-22-00/201).

Supply the systems A and B hydraulic power (Ref 27-61-00/201).

Move the speed brake lever to the UP position to lift the spoilers.

 (4)  
Move the flap control lever to the UP position to fully retract the trailing edge flaps.

 (5)  
Move the speed brake lever to the DOWN position to lower the spoilers.

Adjust the Flight Spoilers

 (1)  
Examine the clearance between the spoiler and the flap:

 (a)  
Turn the captain's aileron control wheel to make sure the spoilers are fully down. 1) Turn the control wheel clockwise for spoilers No. 2 and 3.

 2)  Turn the control wheel counterclockwise for spoilers No. 6 and 7.
 (b) Make sure the clearance between the spoiler and the flap is
 0.03 to 0.13 inch at the closest point.

 (2)  Adjust the clearance between the spoiler and the flap if it is not in the limits:
 WARNING: DO NOT PUT A PART OF YOUR BODY BETWEEN THE SPOILER AND THE
_______ WING UNLESS YOU REMOVE THE HYDRAULIC POWER. THE SPOILERS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS.
 (a)  
Lift the spoiler or extend the flaps to get access to the spoiler actuator: 1) Move the speed brake lever to the UP position to lift the

 spoilers. 2) Move the flap control lever to the 40-unit detent to extend the flaps. 3) Remove the trailing edge access panel to get access to the spoiler actuator if you extended the flaps. 4) Remove the systems A and B hydraulic power (Ref 27-61-00/201).

 (b)  
Loosen the checknut on the actuator rod end.

 (c)  
Disengage the locking key from the piston rod.


 CAUTION: DO NOT TURN THE PISTON ROD IF THE ACTUATOR IS PRESSURIZED.

 YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE ACTUATOR.

 (d)  Turn the piston rod end to adjust the clearance between the spoiler and the flap.
 NOTE: Each 1/4 turn of the piston rod end will change the
____ clearance by approximately 0.10 inch.
 WARNING: DO NOT GET SOLVENTS IN YOUR MOUTH, OR YOUR EYES, OR ON
_______ YOUR SKIN. DO NOT BREATHE THE FUMES FROM SOLVENTS. SOLVENTS ARE HAZARDOUS MATERIALS. SOLVENTS MAY BE FLAMMABLE OR HARMFUL TO THE ENVIRONMENT. REFER TO PRODUCT MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEETS (MSDS) AND LOCAL REQUIREMENTS FOR PROPER HANDLING PROCEDURES.
 (e)  
Clean all grease from the piston rod and the rod end threads with the solvent, Series 88 (AMM 20-30-88/201).

 (f)  
Engage the locking key with the piston rod.

Apply a layer of corrosion preventive compound to the rod end threads.
