_______ EDGE FLAPS AND SLATS. THE FLAPS AND SLATS CAN MOVE QUICKLY WHEN YOU USE THE ALTERNATE FLAP SYSTEM. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
 (1)  
Put the ALTERNATE FLAP control switch in the DOWN position to extend the trailing edge flaps.

 (a)  
Extend the flaps until the FLAPS DOWN switch operates to stop the flaps.

 (b)  
Make sure the Dimension X is 29.65 to 30.18 inches plus the X1


 dimension (Fig. 502).Do the FLAPS UP Switch Test

Put the ALTERNATE FLAP control switch in the UP position to retract the trailing edge flaps:

 (a)  
Retract the flaps until the FLAPS UP switch operates and stops the flaps.

 (b)  Make sure that the dimension X is 0.921 to 0.984 inch
 (Fig. 502).

 NOTE: This dimension is approximately equal to 1-3/4 to 2-1/4

Do these steps to do a test for the stab trim functions of the flap switch:

 (a)  
Make sure these circuit breakers on the P6 panel are closed: 1) STABILIZER TRIM ACTUATOR 3 PHASE 2) STABILIZER TRIM CONT

 (b)  
Set the STAB TRIM MAIN ELEC switch (cutout switch), S272, to the NORMAL (guarded) position.

 (c)  
Set the Column Actuated Stabilizer Trim switch (Override Switch), S847, (S1 on the P8-47 module) to the NORM (guarded) position.

 (d)  
Set the flaps to a flaps down position.


 NOTE: Use a minimum flap position of 1 unit.

 (e)  Move the two STAB TRIM switches on the captain's control wheel to the NOSE UP position. 1) Hold the STAB TRIM switches in the NOSE UP position until
 the stabilizer movement stops. 2) Make sure the captain's STAB TRIM indicator shows 12.5 +/-
1.0 units of trim.
 (f)  Move the two STAB TRIM switches on the captain's control wheel to the NOSE DOWN position.
 NOTE: You will measure how much time is necessary for the
____ stabilizer to move from the lower travel limit to the upper travel limit.
 1)  Hold the STAB TRIM switches in the NOSE DOWN position until the stabilizer movement stops.

 2)  Measure the time necessary for the stabilizer to move from
 the lower travel limit to the upper travel limit. 3) Release the two STAB TRIM switches. 4) Make sure the stabilizer moves from its lower travel limit
 to its upper travel limit in 17 - 24 seconds. 5) Make sure the captain's STAB TRIM indicator shows
 0.0 +/- 1.0 units of trim.
 (g)  Set the flaps to the up position.
 NOTE: The flaps will be at 0 units or in the the FLAPS UP
____
 position.

 (h)  
Set the stabilizer to a minimum of 4 units of trim.

 (i)
